Area girls basketball fans may remember Carsyn Fearday, who played basketball for Effingham High School and went over 1,000 points in her career for the Hearts.

Fearday went on to play college basketball for Maryville University and, as a senior, has now gone over 1,000 points in her collegiate career.

Maryville University has a 15-12 mark this season and finished at 10-10 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference.

Fearday has averaged 13.4 points per game this season. Her highest score was 24 points against William Jewell where she hit eight of 12 from the field, two of three from three-point range and was six of eight at the free throw line.

The senior had five games 20 points or better and was in double figures in 22 of the 27 games played this season.

She hit 46.2 percent from the field, 33.3 percent from three point range and was 82 out of 102 free throws for 80.4 percent. She finished the regular season with 131 rebounds for an average of five per game and tallied 25 steals.

Fearday could add to her collegiate total as the Maryville team earned the No. 6 seed for the 2023 Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament and will play No. 3 seed Truman State this Friday at 8:15 p.m. in Hyland Arena on the campus of Lindenwood University.

The Saints are making their 10th appearance in the GLVC Tournament and won the 2012 championship. If Maryville advances, it will face the winner of the No. 2 Lewis vs. No. 7 McKendree contest Saturday, March 4 at 8:15 p.m. The championshp game is slated for Sunday, March 5 at 3:30 p.m.
