All Three County Schools Win Regionals Friday (updated)

All three county boys teams playing Friday night won regional championships.

The Teutopolis Wooden Shoes won their own 2A Regional, downing the Robinson Maroons 59-40 in a game heard on KJ Country 102.3, the Altamont Indians beat the Nokomis Redskins to win the Nokomis 1A Regional 59-37, and the St. Anthony Bulldogs came from behind to beat Centralia Christ Our Rock Lutheran and win the South Central 1A Regional 40-34 in a game heard on 979XFM. 

The victories mean four area teams are still alive in the postseason. The Neoga Lady Indians will play Christopher Monday at 7pm for the St. Anthony 1A Super-Sectional. On Tuesday, Altamont will play Casey-Westfield at 7pm at the Altamont 1A Sectional. On Wednesday, St. Anthony will play Tuscola at 7pm at the Altamont 1A Sectional, and Teutopolis will take on Alton Marquette at 7pm at the Newton 2A Sectional.

TEUTOPOLIS 59, ROBINSON 40

The Shoes moved out to an eight-point lead in the first quarter before Robinson came back to tie the game. T-Town got another bucket at the end of the quarter to lead 15-13 going into the second period.

Brendan Nebrugge connected on two free throws, a three-pointer and a regular basket for seven points in the quarter.

Then the Shoes' defense put the clamps on the Maroons, outscoring Robinson 30-12 over the middle two quarters to lead 45-25 heading for the final period. A 15-14 fourth quarter edge for Robinson led to the 19-point Teutopolis win.

James Niebrugge provided six points in the second quarter and six more in the third period while B. Niebrugge hit another three-pointer and a regular basket.

B. Niebrugge then hit seven points in the final quarter.

T-Town made 23 of 50 shots for 46%. Robinson was held to 15 of 41 shooting, 37%. Each team grabbed 22 rebounds.

B. Niebrugge and Ja. Niebrugge led Teutopolis with 19 points apiece. Caleb Siemer was also in double figures with 11 points. Also for the Shoes, Joey Niebrugge 4, and Caleb Bloemer and Garrett Gaddis 3 each. 

Cooper Loll and Nate Wernz each scored 11 points to lead Robinson. 

The Maroons finished the season at 21-12. Teutopolis improved to 25-7 on the campaign.

ALTAMONT 59, NOKOMIS 37

The Indians got out of the gate in style, leading 15-6 after the first quarter, then expanded the lead to 29-15 at halftime and 40-26 after three quarters before posting a 17-11 fourth quarter edge to win by 22 points.

Mason Robinson connected on three baskets for six opening quarter points and doubled his score to 12 in the second period. Meanwhile, Avery Jahraus found the range from three-point land, hitting one in the first quarter and two in the second period. He continued that with two more in the third quarter and finish with eight three-pointers in the contest.

Av. Jahraus and Robinson combined for 45 points for Altamont, 25 from Jahraus, 20 from Robinson. Jahraus hit eight field goals, all three-pointers, and was one of one at the line. Robinson connected on eight field goals and was four of six at the line. Eric Kollmann added 10 points, and Dillan Elam and Logan Cornett each scored two points. Aumann led Nokomis with 15 points.

Altamont is now 28-4.

ST. ANTHONY 40, CHRIST OUR ROCK LUTHERAN 34

The Bulldogs trailed for much of the game, 13-9 after one quarter, 22-19 at halftime, and 30-28 after three quarters before outscoring CORL 12-4 in the final period to win by six points.

Collin Westendorf showed up big for St. Anthony, scoring 20 points on five field goals, one three-pointer and nine of 12 at the line. He hit four in the opening quarter then five each in the next two quarters and finished with six in the final period. Also for the Bulldogs: Ryan Schmidt 9, Brock Fearday 8, Griffin Sehy 2, and Max Koenig 1. Boehne with 13 and Wuebbels with 10 led Christ Our Rock Lutheran. 

St. Anthony is now 22-10 on the season.
