St. Anthony Second, Sacred Heart Third At State Tourneys

KANKAKEE -- Effingham St .Anthony fell to Decatur Robertson, 42-33, in the championship game of the Class 8-2A Boys State Basketball Tournament at Kankakee Bishop McNamara High School Thursday.

Robertson edged out to an 11-10 opening quarter lead on the Bullpups then had a 15-8 second period run to lead 26-18 at halftime. Robertson continued with an 8-7 third period before the two teams played even in the final quarter.

Robertson had two players in double figures, Keandre Simon with 14 and Keemauri Morton with 10. The winners finished unbeaten on the season with a 16-0 record.

St. Anthony was led by Graiden Wilhour with 14 points on five field goals, one a three-pointer, and three of four at the line.

The Bullpups finished the season with a 19-10 record.

In the third place contest, Mount Sterling Brown County won over Kankakee Bishop McNamara, 36-26. Mount Sterling ended the season at 28-2 while Bishop McNamara was 25-4.

Class 8-1A State Tournament

Effingham Sacred Heart captured third place at the Class 8-1A State Tournament at Assumption Central A&M Middle School Thursday.

The Shamrocks stepped out to a 13-8 opening quarter lead on Pero Catholic and led 17-11 at halftime.

Sacred Heart then put the game away with a 14-3 third period.

Jacob Warner finished with 14 points on four field goals and six of 15 at the line while Jude Traub added 11.

The Shamrocks ended the season with a 19-7 record. Peru Catholc finished at 23-4.

In the championship game, Springfield Christ the King was a 46-37 winner over  Bloomington Cornerstone. 

Springfield ended with a 23-6 mark while Bloomington was 21-6.

Class 3A State Tournament

In the championship game of the 3A State Tournament, East St. Louis Lincoln edged Glenwood Brookwood, 29-28.

In the third place contest, Metamora won over Dolton Lincoln, 55-45.
