EHS, T-town Win at Teutopolis Boys Basketball Shootout

Effingham and Teutopolis claimed victories while Effingham St. Anthony suffered a loss at the Teutopolis Boys Basketball Shootout Saturday.

In the opening contest, Alton was a 74-64 winner over Belleville Althoff. The second game went to Robinson over Mattoon, 64-51.

Troy Triad then downed St. Anthony, 61-39. The two teams played to a 10-10 opening quarter tie. Triad edged ahead 28-25 at halftime behind three trifectas by Hilt who finished connecting on six by halftime for 18 points.

Brock Fearday kept the Bulldogs close in that opening half by scoring 10 in the second period on three field goals, two from three-point range, and two of two at the line.

But in the third quarter, the bottom dropped out for the Bulldogs as Triad had an 18-6 run to lead 46-31 going into the final quarter and continued on with a 15-8 final period.

St. Anthony was led by B Fearday with 16 points on six field goals, two from three-point range, and two of two at the line.

Effingham handed  Jerseyville a 66-44 loss in the fourth game of the day.

The Hearts whipped out to an 18-9 opening quarter lead behind Andrew Donaldson's eight points on two three-pointers and a regular basket and six points by Andrew Splechter.

EHS held a 31-18 halftime lead as Splechter contributed six more points.

EHS had a 16-15 third quarter and finished out with a 19-11 final period run.

Four players hit double digits for the Hearts. Splechter led the way with 20 points on eight field goals, one a three-pointer and three of six at the line. Donaldson added 18, Wolfe 12 and Spencer Fox 10.

In the final game of the shootout, Teutopolis was a 44-38 winner over Centralia.

The Wooden Shoes edged out to a 13-10 opening quarterl ead behind four points by Joey Niebrugge and Caleb Siemer. Brendan Niebrugge connected on a three-pointer.

In the second quarter the Shoes had a 12-10 tally to lead 25-20 at halftime. B. Niebrugge scored eight of the 12 points in the quarter with two three-pointers.

Centtralia came back with a 15-7 third period to take a 35-32 lead. But the Shoes got back on track with a 12-3 final quarter for the victory.

Two players scored in double figures for T-town. .B. Niebrugge led the way with 16 points on five field goals, four of those from three-point range, and two of two at the line. Joey Niebrugge added 10.
