Dieterich Junior High School claimed the championship of the Class 7-2A Effingham St. Anthony Regional Wednesday.

 

Dieterich downed host St. Anthony, 47-37.

Dieterich ran out to a 14-8 opening quarter lead and held that six-point lead at halftime, 24-18. Dieterich had a 12-5 third quarter.

St. Anthony came back with a 14-11 final period on four three-pointers but couldn't overcome the 16-point lead by Dieterich.

Bohnhoff led the way for the winners with 19 points while Westendorf added 11.

St. Anthony was led by Jameson McCallister, Kade Pennington and Cooper Sehy with nine points each.

Dieterich advances to the St. Elmo Sectional Monday and will meet either Altamont or Nokomis at 6:30 p.m.

Altamont and Nokomis play tonight in the Class 7-2A Nokomis Regional for the champoinship at 6:30 p.m.

Class 7-3A Red Hill Regional

Red Hill (Bridgeport) ended Jasper County's season Wednesday.

Red Hill won by two points, 31-29. Red Hill edged out to a 10-6 opening quarter lead but Jasper County came back with an 8-2 second quarter to lead 14-12 at halftime.

Red Hill then had a 12-6 third quarter to move ahead 24-20. Jasper County again came back, this time with a 9-7 run only to fall short.

Jasper County was led by Ian Kessler with eight points and Eli Wolf with seven. Maddox Horner was the top defender.

Jasper County ended the season with a 20-3 record.

The winner now advances to the Paris Mayo Sectional Monday at 6:30 p.m. and will take on either Teutopolis or Tuscola East Prairie. Those two teams play tonight for the regional championship at 6 p.m.

Class 7-3A Red Hill Regional

Class 7-1A Pana Sacred Heart Regional

Pana Sacred Heart claimed the championship of its own regional Wednesday evening.

Sacred Heart defeated Decatur Lutheran, 40-26.

The winner now advances to the East St. Louis Younger Sectional Monday at 6:30 p.m. against Carrollton St. John.

Carrollton St. John won over Jerseyville St. Francis 26-13 Wednesday evening.

 

Class 7-4A Rochester Regional

Rochester claimed the championship of its own regional Wednesday.

Rochester trounced Mount Zion, 46-10.

The winner advances to the Mahomet-Seymour Sectional Monday at 6:30 p.m. against either Mahomet-Seymour or Danville N. Ridge. Those two teams play Friday for the regional championship.

 

Regional championships

Altamont will be playing in the Class 7-2A Nokomis Regional for the championship tonight.

Altamont will square off against host Nokomis.

In the Class 7-3A Sullivan Regional, Teutopolis will meet Tuscola East Prairie at 6 p.m. for the regional crown, also tonight.

Newton St. Thomas and Mattoon St. John will meet Friday at 6:30 p.m. for the championship of the Class 7-1A Hutsonville Regional.
