Kim Romack Reaches 200th Coaching Win; T-town Wins At Highland, LIC Tourney Scores

Coach Kim Romack and her players celebrate a victory making it her 200th coaching career win.

Neoga High School Coach Kim Romack reached her 200th coaching win as her girls basketball squad defeated Vandalia, 50-46 at the National Trail Conference/Central Illini Conference Shootout Saturday.

The Indians edged ahead of Vandalia 11-9 in the opening quarter but the Vandals held a 23-22 halftime lead.

Vandalia then pushed into a 41-35 lead going into the final quarter. Neoga rallied with a bigtime 15-5 run to pull out the four-point victory.

Sydney Richards led the way with 23 points on nine field goals and three of five at the line. She hit two three-pointers. Also in double figures was Allison Sampson with 11.

With the victory, Coach Romack now owns 200 victories and is 200-114 in her 11th season. Romack pased Seth James' previous high of 133 wins some time ago. He finished 133-33 over six seasons from 1998 to 2004. Romack and Altamont High School Coach Katie Lurkins both took their current jobs at the same time and are currently the longest-tenured coaches in the National Trail Conference.

Neoga now stands at 20-3 on the season and will return to action Wednesday in the NTC Tournament.

In game six, Altamont fell to Warrensburg-Latham, 54-41. Warrensburg-Latham ripped out to a 22-10 opening quarter lead and led 35-19 at halftime.

Leading Altamont was Kaylee Lurkins with 10 points.

In game three, Sullivan won over Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg, 45-37. Leading WSS was Sam Hayes with 13 points and Ella Kinkelaar with nine.

Dieterich and Shelbyville squared off in the opener but no score was reported.

North Clay (Louisville) won the second game with a forfeit from Meridian.

Brownstown/St. Elmo downed Central A&M, 46-15 in game four.

Tuscola claimed the last game of the day over Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City, 42-33. The two teams were knotted at 6-6 after the opening quarter before Tuscola moved ahead 20-12 at halftime. CHBC came back with a 13-11 third quarter but Tuscola had an 11-8 final period.

Gracie Heckert led CHBC with 14 points while Macee Rodman added 10. Heckert pulled down 10 rebounds and Mady Wojcik eight. Carmen Olesen had three assists.

Highland Tournament

Teutopolis opened play in the Highland  Tournament with a victory Saturday.

The Wooden Shoes defeated Waterloo, 53-43. T-town took a 15-10 opening quarter lead but Waterloo came back to pull within 24-23 at halftime.

The Shoes then went on a 20-10 tear in the third quarter as Courtney Gibson connected for seven points, Emily Konkel six points and Kaylee Niebrugge five.

The Shoes were led by Niebrugge with 19 points on five field goals, one a three-pointer, and eight of 12 at the line. Konkel tallied 17 on six field goals and five of seven at the line.

Konkel led in rebounds with nine. Chloe Probst had three steals and an assist. Summer Wall and Niebrugge had an assist each.

In other games Saturday, Alton beat Triad 56-19, Belleville East beat Breese Mater Dei 44-38, Higland won over Collinsville 47-28, Okawville defeated Belleville West 59-36, Breese Central downed Nashville 47-30, Bethalto Civic Memorial edged Taylorville 48-46 and O'Fallon trounced Hillsboro 75-44.

Teutopolis will now face Alton today at 7 p.m.

Little Illini Conference Tournament

The Little Illini Conference Tournament began Saturday. In the opener Paris bounced Lawrenceville 85-22.

The second matchup went to Mount Carmel over Marshall 53-49. Richland County downed Casey-Westfield 38-21 and the final game of the day, Robinson won over Newton 51-32.

The tournament continues with two games tonight as Lawrenceville takes on Marshall at 6 and Newton faces Casey-Westfield at 7:30.
