FARINA -- Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg edged South Central, 43-42 as two National Trail Conference girls basketball teams squared off Thursday evening.

The Cougars held a 15-9 opening quarter lead behind Brooklyn Garrett's 11 points on four baskets and three free throws.

Ella Kinkelaar kept Windsor/Stew-Stras in the contest with eight of her team's nine opening quarter points.

The two teams played to an 8-8 second quarter as Kinkelaar added seven of her team's eight points and South Central led 23-17.

But here came, the Hatchets. The squad had a slight 12-10 third quarter to pull within 33-29. Sam Hayes took over the scoring with six points.

Then in the final quarter, Windsor/Stew-Stras kept the pressure on and had a 14-9 run. Morgan Mathis connected on a three-pointer with 4.4 seconds remaining that was the game winner. Hayes scored six points in the quarter.

Kinkelaar finished with 19 points for the winners while Hayes added 12.

South Central was led by Garrett with 19 and Taegan Webster with 15.

At Altamont

Brownstown/St. Elmo picked up a National Trail Conference win over Altamont, 57-44 Thursday evening.

BSE's Jayna Ireland connected on four baskets for eight points in the opening quarter while Natelly Beall hit two baskets and three free throws for seven as the Bombers moved ahead 19-10.

Altamont came back with a 13-12 second period to trail 31-23 at halftime.

BSE went on another run, this one 18-7 to lead 49-30 going into the final quarter. Lexi Seabaugh scored six points while Ireland added five more.

Altamont came back with a 14-8 final period but it was too late.

BSE was led by three players in double digits. Ireland led the way with 17 on eight field goals and one free throw while Baldrige added 14 and Seabaugh 10.

Altamont was led by Remi Miller with 15 points on five field goals, that included two three-pointers and three free throws.

In junior varsity action, Brownstown/St. Elmo was a 30-13 winner. BSE was led by Williams with 13 points. Altamont was led by Kaylee Lurkins with four.

At Flora

Four players scored for Teutopolis as the Wooden Shoes downed Flora, 39-33 Thursday evening.

Kaylee Niebrugge led the way with 20 points on five field goals and 10 of 12 at the line. Emily Konkel also hit double figures with 13 points on four field goals, one a three-pointer, and four of seven at the line. The only other two players to score were Courtney Gibson and Molly Ruholl with a three-pointer each.

T-town held a 23-17 half time lead and led 33-26 going into the final quarter.

Konkel led in rebounds for the Wooden Shoes with eight. Niebrugge had six steals and Konkel four.

At Toledo

Cumberland edged Okaw Valley by a 39-36 count Thursday evening.

The two teams were tied at 12-12 after the first quarter. The Pirates moved ahead 21-18 at halftime.

Both teams scored seven in the third period and 11 in the final quarter.

Katelyn Shoemaker led the way for Cumberland with 18 points on six field goals and six free throws. Paige Dittamore also hit double figures with 14 points.
