Bulldogs Beat Indians; Eagles Win Over Hearts

Effingham St. Anthony wrapped up a National Trail Conference win over Neoga by a 58-33 count in a game heard on 979 XFM Tuesday night.

The Bulldogs left little doubt as they roared out to a 21-6 opening quarter lead behind seven points each by Brock Fearday and Adam Rudibaugh and six each by Max Koenig and Ryan Schmidt.

The lead went to 38-14 at halftime as Fearday continued his seven point run and finished with 14 for the first half.

St. Anthony had a slight 11-9 third quarter as Quintin Richards scored six for the Indians.

Three players hit double digits for the Bulldogs. Fearday led the way with 17 points on seven field goals, two from three-point range, and one of two at the line. Schmidt added 12 points while Koenig finished with 10.

Neoga was led by Brady Reynolds with 12 and Richards with 11.

St. Anthony also claimed the junior varsity contest, 47-13. Leading the Bulldogs were Aidan Lauritzen with 13 and Will Fearday and Nick Ruholl with 10 each. Neoga was led by Ray with five.

A freshman/sophomore game went to St. Anthony, 36-29. Coen Pennington led with 15 points for the Bulldogs. Neoga was led by White with 11.

At Effingham

Newton High School handed Effingham a 70-63 loss in a non-conference matchup Tuesday evening.

The Eagles took a 15-7 opening quarter lead and led 30-24 at halftime. Effingham came back with a 20-14 third quarter to tie the score at 44-44 going into the final quarter.

But the Eagles rallied with a 26-19 run to claim the seven-point victory.

Four Eagles players hit double digits in the contest. Caden Nichols led the way with 25 points on nine field goals, three of those trifectas, and four of six at the line. Parker Wolf added 18, Kye Bergbower 11 and Dylan Gier 10.

Newton improved to 13-5 on the season.

Effingham was led by Garrett Wolf with 26 points on eight field goals, four regular baskets and four three-pointers, and six of six at the line. Andrew Splechter added 12 and Andrew Donaldson 11.
