STRASBURG -- The score was knotted at 38-38 going into the final quarter and St. Elmo/Brownstown pulled out a 59-52 National Trail Conference boys basketball victory over Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg Friday.

SEB edged out to a 19-15 opening quarter lead but WSS came back to pull within 25-24 at halftime. The Hatchets then tied the score in the third quarter before SEB went on a 21-14 tear for the win.

SEB hit 46 percent from the field and was 10 of 14 for 71 percent at the line.

Four players scored in double figures for the winners. Adam Atwood led the way with 17 points on seven of 10 from the field and three of five at the line. Jarrett Pasley added 16 while Caleb Campbell and Cade Schaub scored 12 each.

Pasley led in rebounds with eight while Atwood had seven. Campbell had four assists. Schaub had two steals. SEB improved to 10-5 on the season.

Windsor/Stew-Stras was led by Austin Wittenberg with 19 and Jordan Wittenberg with 10. The Hatchets hit 40 percent from the field and 70 percent at the line with seven of 10.

A. Wittenberg and J. Wittenberg pulled down six rebounds each. Talen Bridges had two steals.

At Altamont

Altamont handed Dieterich a 74-59 loss in Friday evening play. The Indians improved to 2-0 in the NTC, 12-3 overall.

The Indians went out to a 25-16 opening quarter lead behind Avery Jahraus' 15 points as he hit five field goals that included three trifectas and was two of two at the line. Eli Miller chipped in with two three-pointers.

Altamont then had just a one-point edge in the second to lead 43-33 at halftime. Jahraus added three more three-pointers and had 24 points at the half. 

Altamont had a 20-16 third quarter edge as Dillan Elam tallied eight points.

Lucas Westendorf scored nine in the second period for the Movin' Maroons and had 13 at halftime.

Altamont had a 31-26 second half.

Jahraus finished with 24 points on eight field goals, six coming from three-point range, and two of two at the line. Kienon Eirhart tallied 12 and Elam added 10.

Dieterich was led by Westendorf with 18 and Caleb Gephart with 17. Westendorf hit seven field goals, two from three-point range and two of two at the line. Gephart added six field goals, five of those three-pointers.

Altamont claimed the junior varsity game, 63-34.

At Cowden

North Clay (Louisville) ripped out to a 24-5 opening quarter lead and went on for an 87-37 National Trail Conference win over Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City Friday.

Four players finished in double figures for the Cardinals. Logan Fleener scored 30 on 14 field goals and two of two at the line. Alex Boose chipped in with 18, Ethan Kuenstler 14 and Cody Zimdars 11.

The Cardinals connected on 10 three-pointers. Zimdars and Boose finished with three each.

North Clay held a 49-15 halftime lead.

CHBC was led by AJ Radloff with 12 points on five field goals and two of four at the line.

North Clay improved to 10-4 overall and 3-0 in the NTC. CHBC dropped to 5-16.

At Cisne

South Central edged Cisne, 53-51 in Friday evening competition.

The Cougars stepped out to a 16-5 opening quarter lead and the game looked like it could head into the blowout category. But Cisne came back in the second period with an 11-8 run to pull within 24-16 at halftime. 

The Runnin' Lions continued with the momentum through the third quarter with a 17-6 run to pull ahead 33-30 going into the final quarter.

But here came South Central. The Cougars went on a 23-18 tear as Ethan Watwood, who had scored only a three-pointer in the opening quarter, connected on another three-pointer and three field goals and a free throw for 10 final period points. Aidan Dodson tallied seven points in the quarter after having seven through the first three quarters.

Dodson finished with 14 points to lead the Cougars while Watwood added 12 and Rahkeim Anderson 12.

At Blue Ridge

Blue Ridge edged Cumberland, 55-50 in Friday action.

The Pirates held a 12-8 opening quarter lead and Gavin Hendrix connected on four baskets for eight points. But Blue Ridge came back with 14-7 second period to pull ahead 22-19.

Blue Ridge had a 14-10 third period. Cumberland came on with a 21-19 final quarter but couldn't get over the hump. Hendrix scored nine points in that quarter.

Hendrix finished with 23 points for the Pirates, connecting on 10 field goals and three of seven at the line. Blake McMechan added nine points.
