STRASBURG -- Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg broke an opening quarter tie and went on to edge Neoga, 62-59 in National Trail Conference boys action Tuesday evening.

The Hatchets moved ahead by a point at halftime, 34-33 and again had a one-point third quarter to lead 50-48 going into the final period.

WSS continued its one-point edge with a 12-11 final quarter.

Austin Wittenberg led the way for the Hatchets with 26 points on 10 field goals, two from three-point range, and four of six at the line. Jordan Wittenberg tallied 14 while Dylan Curry added 12.

Neoga was led by Brady Reynolds with 24 points while Quintin Richards added 20. Reynolds connected on 10 field goals, four of those three-pointers while Richards hit eight field goals, three from trifecta land and one of one at the line. The Indians drop to 2-2 in the NTC, 6-10 overall.

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg improved to 2-0 in the conference, 14-3 overall.

The Hatchets also nabbed the junior varsity game, 42-30.

WSS will be back in action Friday hosting St. Elmo/Brownstown at Windsor.

At Altamont

It was raining three-pointers in Altamont's gym as the Indians handed Shelbyville a 77-53 non-conference loss Tuesday evening. 

Altamont finished with 10 three-pointers in the contest led by Avery Jahraus with six of those while four other players hit one each.

The two teams played to a 14-14 opening quarter tie before Altamont moved ahead 32-24 at halftime. Jahraus had scored 11 by halftime.

Jahraus went on a tear once again in the third quarter, nailing three trifectas and a regular basket doubling his opening half score to 22. Mason Robinson also cut loose with nine points after scoring eight in the opening half.

The Indians ended with a 21-17 final quarter for the 24-point winning margin.

Robinson led with 23 points on eight field goals and seven of 10 from the free throw line. Jahraus tallied 22 on eight field goals. Also in double figures was  Jared Hammer with 10.

The Indians improved to 11-3 on the season.

Altamont won the junior varsity game, 60-48. Eli Miller scored 14 while Nate Stuemke added 11 for the Indians.

At Farina

It was a big night for South Central's Aidan Dodson. The Cougars played host to Carlyle and picked up a 44-39 non-conference victory.

But the biggest event of the evening was the Cougars' Dodson scoring his 1,000th career point. Dodson finished with 17 points, 15 coming in the opening half.

Dodson connected on seven field goals, two from three-point range, and was one of one at the line. Dodson scored five while Ethan Watwood hit two three-pointers as the Cougars took a 16-10 opening quarter lead.

Dodson scored nine in the second period run and the Cougars led 31-18 at halftime.

Carlyle came back with a 21-13 second half but couldn't get over the opening half run by South Central.

Leading the way for the Cougars was Watwood with six field goals, four three-pointers, and two of two at the line for 18.

South Central is now 12-4 on the season.

Carlyle won the junior varsity game while South Central claimed a freshman/sophomore contest.

At St. Elmo

St. Elmo/Brownstown played host to Oblong/Palestine/Hutsonville and easily claimed a 70-37 non-conference victory Tuesday.

O/P/H actually edged out to a 14-13 opening quarter lead but the Eagles came roaring back with a 28-1 second period to lead 41-15 at halftime.

SEB connected on 45 percent from the field, 42 percent from three-point rang, and 80 percent at the line with eight of 10.

Oblong/Palestine/Hutsonville committed 18 turnovers compared to six for BSE.

Caleb Campbell led the way for the winners with 21 points while Adam Atwood added 20. Campbell was nine of 12 from the field and one of one at the free throw line.

Atwood led the team in rebounds with 10, assists with five and steals with five. SEB is now 8-5 on the season.

At St. Elmo

At Monticello

Teutopolis took the early lead and finished out with a 47-29 win over Monticello in Tuesday evening action.

The Wooden Shoes held a 10-5 opening quarter lead as Brendan Niebrugge connected on three baskets that included two three-pointers for eight of his team's 10 points.

The Shoes then had a 9-4 second period to lead 19-9 at halftime.

James Niebrugge took over the scoring lead in the third quarter with nine of the Shoes' 16 points and T-town held a 35-19 lead.

J. Niebrugge finished with 15 points on six field goals, one a three-pointer, and was two of five at the line. Also in double figures was B. Niebrugge with 11 and Caleb Siemer with 10.

Cumberland jumped out to a 16-6 opening quarter lead and held on for a 59-50 victory over Heritage Tuesday.

Trevin Magee and Gavin Hendrix tallied six points each as the Pirates took the first quarter lead. But Heritage came back with a 14-8 second period to pull within 24-20 at halftime.

Cumberland then had a 35-30 second half.

Magee finished with 28 points on 12 field goals, four three-pointers, while Hendrix added 18.

At Dieterich

Paris edged Dieterich 43-41 in a non-conference contest Tuesday evening.

Dieterich took a 10-9 opening quarter lead behind Caleb Gephart's six points. The Movin' Maroons held a 19-14 halftime lead as Gephart added two more baskets.

The Maroons led by nine points going into the final quarter. That's when Paris came to life with a 23-12 run to pull out the two-point win.

The Tigers' Kody Crampton got on a roll, connecting on two baskets and three free throws for seven of his final 11 points. Tre Lee scored four points and finished with 10 for the winners. Drake Bartos scored three trifectas for nine points.

Dieterich had three players hit double digits. Gephart finished with 14 while Lucas Westendorf and Garrett Gephart added 12 each.
