Robinson Downs St. Anthony, EHS Falls To Olney

Robinson High School broke into the lead in the opening quarter and went on for a 53-43 win over Effingham St. Anthony in boys high school basketball action Tuesday evening.

The Maroons took a 12-7 opening quarter lead as Cooper Loll went on a seven-point run and pushed the team into a 12-7 lead.

The Bulldogs came back with a 10-9 second quarter to trail 21-17 at halftime. Robinson had a slight 14-13 third quarter but finished out with an 18-13 final quarter for the winning margin.

The Maroons connected on 19 of 23 free throws in the contest while St. Anthony had only four of 10.

Four Robinson players hit double figures. Loll tallied 20 points while Noah Gilmore had 11 and Nathan Wernz and Parker scored 10 each.

St. Anthony had one player in double figures. Adam Rudibaugh led the way with 10 points on five field goals. Collin Westendorf and Brock Fearday tallied eight each.

The Bulldogs captured the junior varsity contest, 51-33. Will Fearday scored 13 while Aidan Lauritzen added 12.

In freshman/sophomore play, St. Anthony was a 48-19 winner. Coen Pennington scored 15 and Drake Brown tallied 10.

At Olney

Effingham traveled to Olney and couldn't hold off Ian Winkler and the Tigers in a 66-52 loss Tuesday evening.

Winkler got the Tigers moving in the opening quarter by hitting four baskets, one a three-pointer, and four of four at the line for 13 points as the Tigers held an 18-7 lead.

The Hearts came roaring back with a 14-6 second period to pull within 24-21 at halftime. Five players scored for EHS as Logan Heil and Andrew Splechter led with four points each and Winkler was held to one point.

Olney had a slight 17-16 third quarter as Winkler got loose again, scoring 10 of his team's 17 points and the Tigers had a 41-37 lead .

Then the Tigers put it in high gear, finishing with a 25-15 run for the 14 point victory. Olney connected on 11 of 18 free throws while the Hearts shot only four and hit three of those.

Winkler finished with 36 points on 11 of 18 from the field and 13 of 14 at the line. Also in double figures was Dawson Brown with 10. The Tigers hit only two three-pointers, one by Winkler and one by Brown.

The Hearts were led by Splechter with 14 on seven of 11 field goals while Heil tallied 11. The Hearts did not connect on a three-pointer.
