Neoga Girls To Play For Third at Monticello, N. Clay Moves On At CORL

MONTICELLO -- Neoga High School will play for third place today at the Monticello Holiday Girls Basketball Tournament.

The Indians pounded Paxton-Buckley-Loda, 82-29 in Tuesday play and was a 65-28 winner over Gibson City/Melvin-Sibley.

In the PBL contest, Neoga ripped out to a 47-18 halftime lead and had a 23-6 third quarter.

Sydney Richards and Haylee Campbell provided the one-two scoring punch with 27 points each for the Indians. Richards hit 10 field goals and was six of six at the line. Campbell connected on 11 field goals and was five of seven at the line. Also in double figures was Brynn Richards with 10.

In the GCMS contest, Neoga again ran out to a huge lead in the opening quarter, 24-9 and led 43-16 at halftime.

S. Richards led the way with 29 points on 13 field goals and one of two at the line. Campbell chipped in with 14 points.

Neoga is now 16-1 on the season and will face Ridgeview Thursday at 2 p.m. for third place.

In other games Tuesday, Tuscola beat GCMS 53-24, Clinton won over Monticello 53-21, Stark County edged Ridgeview 42-41 and Tuscola downed PBL 47-22.

Clinton will meet Tuscola for the championship Thursday at 6 p.m. Monticello faces PBL at 10 a.m. for seventh place while Stark County meets GCMS at 11:30 for fifth place.

At Centralia

North Clay (Louisville) was an opening round winner at the Centralia Christ Our Rock Lutheran Winterfest Tournament Tuesday.

The Cardinals beat Trenton Wesclin, 71-52.

In other games, Greenville won over Sandoval 61-17, Hamilton County downed Chester 60-23, Johnston City beat Dupo 55-23, Staunton defeated Anna-Jonesboro 58-17, Father McGivney trounced Elkville/Zeigler-Royaton 63-4, Pinckneyville downed Vandalia 64-46 and CORL edged East Alton-Wood River 41-38.

North Clay will now meet Centralia Christ Our Rock Lutheran in a 3:30 p.m. contest today. The tournament continues Thursday and finishes out Friday.
