Neoga Beats Altamont, Arthur Knights Classic Girls Scores

ALTAMONT -- Neoga High School took an early lead and went on for a 61-31 victory over Altamont in girls basketball action Wednesday evening.

 

Neoga stepped out to a 20-11 opening quarter lead and led 38-17 at halftime. Neoga had a 23-14 second half.

Brynn Richards and Allison Sampson scored six points each during the first quarter run. Sydney Richards  scored nine in the second quarter.

S. Richards led the way with 20 points on eight field goals and three of four at the line. B. Richards chipped in with 13.

The Indians hit 13 of 19 free throws.

Altamont's leading scorer Grace Nelson finished with nine. Nelson was injured in the second quarter and did not return to the game. Remington Miller tallied six points.

Neoga improves to 14-0 on the season and won't return to action until December 26 in the Monticello Holiday Hoopla.

At Arthur

The Arthur Knights Classic got underway Wednesday evening with eight games.

Cumberland and Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg, the lone two area teams in the classic, each claimed a victory and suffered a loss.

The Pirates defeated Chrisman, 56-24. Cumberland stepped out to a 14-2 opening quarter lead and never looked back.

Three players hit double figures for the Pirates. Abbie Becker tallied 18 while Katelyn Shoemaker had 12 and Suzy Fritts added 10.

Cumberland then ran into Mount Zion and fell, 64-29.

The Braves held a 45-18 halftime lead.

Leading Cumberland was Paige Dittamore with 12 points.

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg won over Heritage, 48-12 then fell to Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond, 41-33. No statistics were reported for WSS.

In other games, ALAH edged Decatur Eisenhower, 43-42, Mount Zion downed Shelbyville, 71-36, Eisenhower won over Heritage, 68-26 and Shelbyville pounded Chrisman, 52-10.

The tournament doesn't continue until Monday, January 2. The schedule is as follows:
