Bulldogs Hand Tigers 44-34 Loss

OLNEY -- Effingham St. Anthony took the early lead and never relented in a 44-34 non-conference boys basketball win over Olney Tuesday evening. The game was heard on 979 XFM.

The Bulldogs held a 9-3 opening quarter lead as Collin Westendorf tallied two baskets and Brock Fearday hit a three-pointer.

Although the Tigers had a 15-14 second period, St. Anthony was a 23-18 leader at halftime. Fearday continued on with four baskets for eight points in the quarter.

The scoring slowed way down in the third quarter as Olney had a 7-4 lead and made the game interesting by pulling within 27-25 going ino the final period.

But the Bulldogs got the range once again and had a 17-9 final period. Westendorf connected on two field goals and two of four at the line for six points while Michael Martelli hit six of six free throws for six points.

Fearday finished with 17 points to lead the Bulldogs. He connected on seven two-pointers and one three-point shot. Westendorf tallied 10 points, six coming in that final quarter.

In the junior varsity contest, Olney was a 42-36 winner in overtime. St. Anthony was led by Nick Ruholl with 11 points.
