T-town Handles EHS, Newton Downs St. A, Altamont Wins, Neoga Loses

TEUTOPOLIS -- Teutopolis High School stepped out to a 23-13 opening quarter lead on Effingham and went on for a 66-38 boys basketball victory in a game heard on 979 XFM Tuesday evening.

The Wooden Shoes never relented througout the contest, holding a 34-23 halftime lead and a 50-33 lead going into the final quarter. T-town hit 58.3 percent for the first half and 58.7 percent from the field for the game.

Three players scored in double figures for the Shoes. Brendan Niebrugge led the way with 16 points on six baskets that included four three-pointers while James Niebrugge added 12 and Caleb Siemer 10.

Effingham had one player in double figures. Andrew Splechter led the way with 16 points while Garrett Wolfe was on the verge of double figures with nine. The Hearts shot only 32.6 percent from the field for the game.

Teutopolis also claimed the junior varsity contest, 67-42.

At Newton

St. Anthony took the early lead but Newton came back in the second half to claim a 63-54 win Tuesday evening.

The Bulldogs held a 15-14 opening quarter lead as Collin Westendorf scored six points.

St. Anthony continued to keep the pressure on and had a 14-12 second period to lead 29-26 at halftime. Griffin Sehy tallied six points for the Bulldogs.

But the Eagles came back with an 18-14 third quarter to move ahead 44-43 going into the final period. Caden Nichols knocked in a three-pointer along with two regular baskets and two free throws for nine in the period while Dylan Gier added three baskets and a free throw for seven points.

Newton then went on a 19-11 final quarter run for the victory. Nichols finished with 24 points as he connected on seven field goals, two of those three-pointers, and was eight of eight at the line. Gier and Parker Wolf chipped in with 16 points each.

St. Anthony was led by Westendorf with 17 points on six field goals, one a three-pointer, and four of five at the line.

Newton improved to 7-2 on the season.

St. Anthony captured a 56-31 victory in junior varsity play. Brady Hatton scored 19 and Keenan Griffith 13 for the Bulldogs. Newton was led by Kye Bergbower with seven.

At Altamont

Mason Robinson was the lone Altamont player in double figures as the Indians handed Carlyle a 53-35 non-conference loss Tuesday evening.

Robinson and Dillan Elam scored five points each the in the opening quarter 17-12 run. Robinson then had four points in a 7-6 second quarter as the Indians held a 24-18 halftime lead.

The Indians had a 10-9 third period to lead 34-27 and finished strong with a 19-8 final period run. In that run, Robinson connected on five of six free throws while Avery Jahraus hit a three-ponter and was two of two at the line and Logan Cornett nailed a three-pointer with a regular basket.

Robinson hit four field goals and was 10 of 11 at the line for 18 points. Avery Jahraus tallied nine while Wyatt Phillips and Cornett chipped in with eight points each.

In the junior vasrity game, Altamont was a 64-40 winners. Kaidyn Miller tallied 12 while Alec Jahraus and Eli Miller had 11 points each for Altamont.

At Neoga

Casey-Westfield came calling and claimed a 52-38 non-conference win over Neoga Tuesday evening.

Neoga stepped out to an 11-6 opening quarter lead but the Warriors got untracked with an 18-6 second period run to lead 24-17 at halftime. Casey-Westfield continued its barrage with an 18-13 third quarter and finished out leading 10-8 in the final period.

J. Clement scored 20 while J. Parcel added 19 for the winners.

Neoga was led by Quintin Richards with 16 and Brady Reynolds with 13.
