EHS Boys Drop OT Loss, T-town, SEB Wins, N. Clay Loses In Saturday Play

MARION -- Effingham High School competed in the Black Diamond Harley-Davidson Boys Basketball Shootout at Marion High School Saturday.

The Hearts fell in overtime to Mascoutah, 45-41 in the third game of the shootout.

EHS edged out to a 9-8 opening quarter lead as Andrew Donaldson and Garrett Wolf knocked in a three-pointer each.

Mascoutah came back to tie the score at halftime, 23-23. Wolfe added on six more points while Spencer Fox had two baskets.

Mascoutah moved ahead 33-32 going into the third quarter but the Hearts came back on a three-pointer by Wolf and free throws by Fox and Logan Heil to send the game into overtime. In the overtime period, Mascoutah had an 8-4 run for the four-point victory.

Wolf finished with 16 on six field goals, four of those from three-point range. Heil tallied 11.

Other scores in the shootout were Harrisburg 56, Marion 54 in girls action. In boys play, Lawrenceville defeated Ballard Memorial, Ky., 63-51, Kankakee won over Carbondale, 45-39, Triad downed Nashville, 39-13 and Poplar Bluff, Mo. defeated Marion, 46-43,

At Tolono Unity

Teutopolis was a 56-40 winner over host Tolono Unity Saturday.

The Wooden Shoes edged out to a 13-10 opening quarter lead but Tolono Unity came back with a 14-6 run to lead 24-19 at halftime.

T-town then got back on the right track with a 19-13 third quarter where Joey Niebrugge scored nine points to bring the Shoes back from the 10-point deficit and move ahead 38-37. T-town then had a 13-3 final period run.

Joey Niebrugge led the way for T-town with 16 points while James Niebrugge and Caleb Siemer chipped in with 10 points each.

"Joey got us the nine points in the third quarter to bring us back," said T-town Coach Chet Reeder. "Logan Roepke forced multiple turnovers in the third quarter and that also helped."

Siemer led the Shoes in rebounds with seven while James Niebrugge pulled down five.

At St. Elmo

St. Elmo/Brownstown dominated Tri-County by a 70-36 count Saturday.

SEB ran off to an 18-9 opening quarter lead and led 45-17 at halftime.

SEB shot 54 percent from the field and 81 percent at the free throw line. The Eagles ourebounded Tri-County, 30-22.

Three players hit double figures for the winners. Caleb Campbell led the way with 21 points while Jarrett Pasley added 15 and Josiah Maxey 11. Caleb Schaub and Adam Atwood were on the brink of double figures with nine each.

Wyatt Stine and Collin Maxey led in rebounds with six each. Atwood had three assists and four steals.

At St. Elmo

At Graves County, Ky.

North Clay (Louisville) headed to Graves County, Kentucky and fell to the homestanders, 97-78 Saturday.

Graves County edged out to a 29-24 opening quarter lead and led 46-41 at halftime. Graves County had a 51-37 second half run.

Logan Fleener led the way for the Cardinals with 27 points on eight field goals, two of those three-pointers, and nine of 11 at the line. Levi Smith added 23 points on nine field goals, two three-pointers, and three of three at the line. Alex Boose chipped in with 12 and Cody Zimdars added 11.

Graves County also claimed a 50-19 junior varsity contest. North Clay was led by Jesse Weidner with five points.
