Effingham St Anthony Thanksgiving Tournament

Breese Central  48, Robinson  45 (a corner three at the buzzer gave the Cougars the win and a berth in the championship game Saturday at 7:30pm)

T-Town 63, Mattoon 55  (the Wooden Shoes will do battle with Breese Central for the tournament championship; the Shoes exploded to a 24-7 lead after one quarter and were up 40-17 at halftime before the Green Wave outscored T-Town 38-23 in the second half. Teutopolis made 25 of 56 shots including 6 of 15 threes, but struggled at the foul line, making just five of 18 attempts. The Shoes pulled down 36 rebounds and turned the ball over 13 times. Mattoon made 17 of 48 shots for 35%, including 6 of 15 threes. The Green Wave made 15 of 19 free throws, grabbed 24 rebounds, and committed 15 turnovers. James Niebrugge led Teutopolis with 19 points on 8 of 11 shooting. Caleb Siemer and Brendan Niebrugge each scored 14 points. Also for Teutopolis: Garrett Gaddis 7, Caleb Bloemer 4, Joey Niebrugge and Tyler Pruemer 2 each, and Logan Roepke 1. Taerick Grace with 16, Blaine Powers with 13 points, and Andrew Wetzel with 11 points led Mattoon in scoring)

Highland  52,  Rantoul  45

St Anthony  55, Effingham  48 (Effingham had one one-point lead, but St. Anthony led the remainder of the contest. St. Anthony made 42% of its shots, 19 of 45, including 7 of 18 threes. St. Anthony won despite making just eight of 23 foul shots. The Bulldogs pulled down 22 rebounds and committed 11 turnovers. Effingham made 13 of 30 shots, 43%, including 3 of 9 threes. The Hearts made 12 of 15 free throws, and grabbed 30 rebounds, but committed 22 turnovers. Brock Fearday led St. Anthony for the third straight game with 13 points, while Max Koenig had nine, Griffin Sehy, Jonathan Willenborg and Collin Westendorf each scored seven points, Will Fearday six, Sam LInk four, and Michael Martelli two. Effingham's Garrett Wolfe led all scorers with 23 points, while Andrew Splechter scored 15 points, Logan Heil six, and Andrew Donaldson and Spencer Fox two apiece)

That sets up the tournament finals on Saturday. Effingham will play Mattoon at 3pm for seventh place, Robinson will take on Rantoul at 4:30pm for fifth place, St. Anthony will play Highland at 6pm for third place,and Teutopolis will take on Breese Central at 7:30pm for the tournament championship.
