Effingham St. Anthony hosted a seventh- and eighth-grade boys basketball shootout Saturday at the Enlow Center.

In the seventh-grade shootout, the Bullpups defeated Salem, 37-22. The Bullpups led 25-16 at halftime then held Salem scoreless with a 10-0 run in the third quarter.

St. Anthony was led by Cooper Sehy and Conner Storm with nine points each.

In the second game, St. Anthony was a 34-28 winner. The Bullpups trailed Greenville 21-20 at halftime and 28-26 going into the final quarter. St. Anthony then went on an 8-0 tear to claim the victory.

C. Storm scored 21 for the winners.

In the eighth-grade shootout, St. Anthony split victories.

The Bullpups fell to Salem, 43-31. St. Anthony broke an 11-11 first quarter tie with an 11-7 second period to lead 22-18 at halftime. But Salem came roaring back with a 20-4 third quarter and that was the contest.

M. Waldhoff led the way with 17 points.

In the second contest, St. Anthony held a 20-12 halftime lead then had a 10-2 third quarter surge for a 39-19 win.

Waldhoff tallied 18 while G. Wilhour added 15 for the Bullpups.

At Strasburg

Stewardson-Strasburg hosted an Eighth-Grade Tournament Saturday.

In the opener, Stew-Stras defeated Altamont Lutheran, 34-19. Stew-Stras ran off to a 23-9 halftime lead.

Two players hit double figures for the winners. A. Vonderheide led with 14 while Bible tallied 10.

In the second game, Altamont Lutheran defeated Jasper County, 43-33.

In the third contest, Stew-Stras downed Jasper County, 50-19. Stew-Stras held a 24-9 halftime lead and had a 26-8 final half run.

Bible tallied 19 while Wetherell added 16 in the victory. Stew-Stras' eighth-grade squad is now 6-2 on the season.

In Friday action, Stew-Stras defeated Sigel St. Michael in both seventh- and eighth-grade play.

Stew-Stras was a 31-12 winner in the seventh-grade game, Stew-Stras had a 12-2 third period after leading 11-9  at halftime.

Bible tallied eight for the winners while DeBolt added seven. The seventh-grade squad is now 5-3 on the season.

Durdel led the Sharpshooters with nine points.

In the eighth-grade game, Stew-Stras was a 39-29 winner. The winners led 16-14 at halftime and the big run came in the third quarter, 14-4.

Bible scored 16 to lead the way while Wetherell added 15 for Stew-Stras.

Sigel Michael was led by Bryce Niebrugge with 12 points.
