MARSHALL -- Effingham Junior High School claimed girls basketball victories in the Marshall Cubs Seventh- and Eighth-Grade Shootout Saturday.

 

In seventh-grade play, the Mustangs won over Marshall, 42-25. Effingham took a 24-14 halftime lead then had a 12-3 third quarter run.

Emery Spicer led the way for the Mustangs with 17 points while Nora Cekander added nine.

Effingham then defeated Westville, 45-11 with a 31-5 halftime lead.

Cekander led with 16 points while Spicer and Keagyn Koenig added 10 each.

In the eighth-grade, Effingham beat Marshall, 29-17. Effingham was led by Drew Weis with 17 points.

Effingham defeated Westville, 37-11. Weis again led the Mustangs with nine points

At Mount Zion

Teutopolis split victories with Mount Zion Saturday.

Mount Zion was a 38-33 winner in the seventh-grade game. The Wooden Shoes held a 21-16 halftime lead but Mount Zion came back with a 15-6 third quarter to lead 31-27 and then had a 7-6 final period.

McMahon led the Shoes with 11 points. T-town fell to 18-3.

In eighth-grade action, T-town had an 8-4 opening quarter then held Mount Zion scoreless in the second period for a 15-4 halftime lead. The Shoes went on for a 29-13 win and improved to 17-4.

Borries led the way with 11 points.
