NEWTON -- Effingham St. Anthony improved its records in both seventh- and eighth-grade boys basketball play with victories over Newton St. Thomas Thursday.

The seventh-grade Bullpups went to 6-0 on the season with a 32-24 win.

St. Anthony edged out to a 16-13 halftime lead as Kade Pennington knocked in a three-pointer in the first quarter and Conner Storm scored seven of the nine second quarter points.

St. Thomas knotted the score at 22-22 going into the final quarter. St. Anthony then produced a 10-2 run to pull out the victory.

Both teams had two players score 11 points each. St. Anthony was led by Pennington and Storm with 11 points while St. Thomas was led by Fulton and Bennett with 11 each.

In the eighth-grade game, three players finished in double figures for the Bullpups in a 55-17 victory.

G. Wilhour tallied 20 while M. Waldhoff added 13 and W. Bierman 11 for the winners who zipped out to a 36-8 halftime lead.

St. Anthony is now 2-2 on the season.

St. Thomas was led by Meinhart with six points.

At Teutopolis

Teutopolis scored in the 40-point range in taking two victories over Effingham Thursday.

In the seventh-grade game, the Wooden Shoes won 40-25. Effingham edged out to a 10-9 opening quarter lead but T-town had a 31-15 run over the next three quarters.

Payne Davidson scored 12 and Jake Probst 10 for the winners.

Effingham was led by Fox with 11.

In eighth-grade play, T-town won 41-24. The Shoes took a 29-7 halftime lead.

Jake Kocher scored nine and Hayden Tebbe seven for the Shoes.

Effingham was led by Braddy with 10.

At Effingham

South Central and Effingham Sacred Heart were both winners Thursday.

The visitors won the seventh-grade game, 19-12 and improved to 5-2 on the season.

In the eighth-grade game, Sacred Heart edged South Central, 33-30.

The Shamrocks held an 8-6 opening quarter lead and led 17-12 at halftime and 27-23 going into the final quarter.

Two players scored in double figures for Sacred Heart. Warner tallied 16 while Traub added 11.

South Central was led by Westin Neilson with 17 and Luke Shumate with 11. South Central dropped to 3-2.

At Louisville

Dieterich handed North Clay (Louisville) losses in both games Thursday evening.

Dieterich won the seventh-grade contest, 45-16. Dieterich held a 24-3 halftime lead.

Three players hit double figures for the winners. Bryce Bohnhoff led the way with 14 points while Alex Schottman added 11 and Ben Schottman 10.

North Clay was led by Adain with seven points.

In the eighth-grade game, Dieterich held a 17-10 halftime lead then had a 31-21 second half and went on for a 46-31 win.

Gavin Meinhart led the way for the winners with 15 and Len Brummer added 12.

North Clay was led by Griffy with 11 and Buchanan with eight.

At Louisville
