President Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris both spoke to WNBA star Brittney Griner’s wife Wednesday, with Biden reassuring Cherelle Griner that he’s trying to get Brittney free from her detention in Russia as soon as possible.

The White House said Biden offered Griner’s family his support and committed to making sure they receive “all possible assistance,” and also read a draft of a letter he was sending Brittney after she wrote to him Monday.

Griner has been detained in Russia since February and is now on trial, accused of possessing vape cartridges containing cannabis oil.
