EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – SIUE men's basketball Head Coach Brian Barone has continued to add to his 2022-23 roster, announcing the addition of guard Cobie Barnes.

The 6-foot-7-inch, 215-pound Barnes played this past season for John A. Logan College in Carterville, Illinois. The native of Floyd's Knob, Indiana, graduated from Floyd Central HS and played his first two collegiate seasons at Indiana State.

While competing for John A Logan College's sweet-sixteen team this past season, Barnes was named All-Great Rivers Athletic Conference and was an NJCAA All-Region 24 selection. He averaged 14.4 points and 6.8 rebounds per game. He also connected on 50 percent of his field goal attempts.

"We are extremely excited to add Cobie Barnes to our family," said SIUE coach Brian Barone. "Cobie is a versatile wing that is more than capable of playing all over the floor, he is an exceptionally skilled scorer and rebounder. His all-around skill-set and high IQ is a welcome addition to our program, which I know will translate very well to the Ohio Valley Conference. Cobie is an experienced player that has been well-coached at both Indiana State and John A. Logan. He has won a ton, especially during his last stop at John A. Logan, where he was the most productive player on a top-ranked team which advanced all the way to the sweet 16 in the NJCAA National Tournament."

"I'm excited to get to SIUE and help the Cougars bring their winning potential out," Barnes said upon signing. "I feel like the city deserves a great basketball team to support and I can't wait to get to work and help bring that to Edwardsville. I love the family culture that Coach Barone is creating, and I can't wait to get to work."

"With Cobie's length, athleticism and skill set, he was able to play the 1-4 positions for us this year, which became hard for other teams to guard." John A. Logan Assistant Coach Tyler Smithpeters said. "A great player on the court and in the classroom, we are excited to see Cobie make an immediate impact for Coach Barone and SIUE."

A highly touted HS prospect, Barnes was named All-Hoosier Hills Conference in 2017 and 2018 at Floyd Central. He was named an Indiana All-Star following his senior year in 2019. Barnes was tabbed an All State Supreme 15 Junior All-Star Team selection in 2018. He averaged 16.1 points, 6.8 rebounds and was the team leader in steals for 24-2 team that was ranked No. 2 in the state of Indiana by MaxPreps. His team earned the Hoosier Hills Conference Championship in a league that included No. 3 New Albany and No. 6 Jeffersonville. Barnes was a two-time All-HHC selection and finished with over 1600 points in his high school career, ranking fourth all-time in Floyd Central history.

Barnes was selected to the Indiana Junior All-Star Team where he scored 35 points and had 15 rebounds. He had 43 points and 12 rebounds while being named MVP of the Indiana Junior Class Basketball All Star Game. He was also named MVP of the Battle of the Bridges All Star Game after scoring 37 points. Barnes was also selected for the Adidas All-American Camp in July of 2018.

Barnes joins recent signees Damarco Minor, Jalen Hodge and Dorion Staples in Barone's 2022-23 recruiting class.
