Teutopolis Edges Newton for 2A Regional Championship

Teutopolis claimed the Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond Class 2A Regional championship.

The Teutopolis Wooden Shoes captured the Arthur/Lovington-Atwood/Hammond 2A Regional championship Friday night with a thrilling 48-45 win over the Newton Eagles.

Teutopolis, now 24-7, advances to the Flora 2A Sectional and will take on Alton Marquette Tuesday at 7pm. Alton Marquette won the Greenville Regional with a victory over Greenville 55-24 to win the Greenville Regional. We will have the game on KJ Country 102.3 and www.kjcountry.com

Newton led the contest 10-8 after one quarter and the Eagles were up 24-20 at halftime, but the Wooden Shoes outscored Newton 14-8 in the third quarter to take a 34-32 lead. Teutopolis' 14-13 fourth quarter gave the Shoes the three-point win and the championship.

Brendan Niebrugge led Teutopolis with 14 points. Dylan Pruemer was also in double figures with 10 points. Also for the Shoes: Caleb Siemer 9, Max Niebrugge 6, James Niebrugge 5, and Mitch Althoff 4.

Newton had a one-two punch of Ben Meinhart with 16 points and Evan Schafer with 15 points. Also for Newton: Parker Wolf 8, Mason Schafer 4, and Leo Weber 2.
