Three area high school girls basketball teams will be opening sectional play tonight.

Effingham St. Anthony and Neoga will both be competing in the Class 1A Tuscola Sectional.

The Bulldogs will meet Hume Shiloh at 6 p.m. St. Anthony comes into the meeting with a 22-9 record after winning the Cumberland Regional. The Bulldogs defeated Dieterich 49-30 and then won over Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City 61-57 in the championship game.

Neoga will square off against Tuscola at 7:30 p.m. The Indians come into the meeting with a 25-7 record while Tuscola stands at 21-7.

Neoga was the champion of the Altamont Regional. Neoga defeated North Clay (Louisville), 63-53 and then won the championship over host Altamont 48-32.

Teutopolis will be competing in the Class 2A Monticello Sectional.

The Wooden Shoes claimed the Salem Regional. T-town trounced host Salem, 60-15 then handed Robinson a 68-31 loss in the championship game.

T-town (21-7) will face Paris in the second game of the sectional tonight at 7:30. The opener will have Pana (32-1) taking on Marshall (23-6) at 6.

The Wooden Shoes met Paris during regular season play on December 20 and lost 51-49. Another loss for the Shoes came against Pana. The Panthers won 39-38 in overtime on December 6. But those losses mean nothing at the end of the season as Coach Laurie Thompson's squad has been coming on strong.
