Mt. Zion downs Effingham In Boys Basketball

Mount Zion came calling and handed Effingham a 68-49 loss as two Apollo Conference boys basketball teams clashed Saturday.

The Hearts took a 14-12 opening quarter lead but Mount Zion moved ahead 26-24 at halftime. The Braves then had a 22-11 third quarter surge and outscored the Hearts 20-14 in the final period.

Effingham had one player in double figures. Jett Volpi led the way with 17 points on six field goals, three of those from three-point range.

Mount Zion had three players in double figures. Lyncoln Koester led with 16 points while Jack Driscoll had 13 and Ethan Hamrick 10. The Braves connected on 10 three-pointers in the game.
