Dieterich, Newton Win; CHBC Falls In Girls Basketball

DIETERICH -- Dieterich HIgh School edged out to a 16-12 opening quarter lead then got on the scoring train with a 22-10 second period run. The Movin' Maroons continued strong in the second half for a 63-36 girls basketball win over Webber Township (Bluford) Tuesday evening.

The Maroons' Cortney Brummer and Kaitlyn Boergen led the second period run. Brummer connected on three trifectas for nine points while Brummer hit three regular baskets and a free throw for seven.

The lone quarter Webber had a lead was in the third and that was a slight 8-7 edge.

Three Dieterich players hit double digits. Boerngen finished with 21 points on seven field goals, five of those three-pointers, and two of four at the line. Madelyn Brummer tallied 12 and C. Brummer 11.

At Casey

Newton High School improved to 4-4 in the Little Illini Conference and 11-17 overall with a 50-20 win over Casey-Westfield Tuesday.

The Warriors edged out to a 9-8 opening quarter lead but Newton came roaring back with a 19-0 second period and never looked back.

Ava Kessler was the lone Eagles player in double figures with 13. Nine other players scored in the contest.

Leading in rebounding was Macy Barthelemy who pulled down five. Camryn Martin led in steals with eight while A. Kessler had five. Karasayn Martin and A. Kessler had three assists each.

The Eagles will play host to Effingham St. Anthony Thursday.

At Cowden

Nokomis came calling and edged Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City, 57-55 Tuesday evening.

The Bobcats ran off to a 22-17 opening quarter lead and led 36-30 at halftime. However, Nokomis came back with an 18-15 third period to pull within 51-48 going into the final quarter. Nokomis continued with a 9-4 final period run to pull out the victory.

CHBC was led by two players in double figures. Gracie Heckert led the way with 18 points while Lani Morrison tallied 17. Heckert led in rebounds with nine. Macee Rodman led in steals with three and assists with three.

In the junior varsity game, Nokomis was a 32-24 winner. CHBC was led by Harleigh Bunch with 13.

At Cowden
