Riley Guy Scores 41 In Bulldogs Win; EHS, T-town, C'land, Newton Nab Victories

Effingham St. Anthony High School's Riley Guy put together a 41 point scoring binge as the Bulldogs tallied a 70-35 victory over Brownstown/St. Elmo as two National Trail Conference teams met Monday evening in a game heard on KJ Country 102.3.

Guy started the opening quarter by knocking in two baskets, one a three-pointer, and four free throws for nine of the 14 points. However, BSE also tallied the same for a 14-14 tie.

Guy scored 16 points in the second period as the Bulldogs moved into a 37-20 halftime lead. St. Anthony led 63-32 after three quarters. Guy added 14 more points as she connected on four three-pointers and a regular basket. She finished out with a three in the final period.

Guy hit 14 field goals, half of those from three-point range, and was six of eight at the line. Also in double figures was Lucy Fearday with 14 points on six field goals and two of four at the line.

BSE was led by Audrey Wilhour with 11 points and Sydney Stine with 10.

In junior varsity action, St. Anthony blanked BSE, 24-0. Nuxoll led the Bulldogs with eight points.

At Effingham

Effingham High School picked up an Apollo Conference win over Lincoln Monday evening, 45-33.

The Hearts held a 12-9 opening quarter lead as Meredith Schaefer knocked in two three-pointers. Lincoln came back with a 10-8 second period to pull within 20-19 at halftime But the Hearts got back on the scoring with a 13-7 third period and had a 12-7 final quarter.

Only one player scored in double digits for the Hearts. Schaefer led the way with five of 10 from the field, all three-pointers, for 15. Ella Niebrugge chipped in with nine points and Marissa Allie had eight.

Lincoln dropped to 8-3 in the conference and 21-7 overall.

The Hearts improved to 5-6 in the conference and 18-10 overall.

Teutopolis took the early lead and never looked back in a 59-28 victory over Neoga Monday evening.

The Wooden Shoes held a 19-9 opening quarter and led 36-17 at halftime.

Zoe Cremens got the Shoes going with a 10 point opening quarter. The Shoes also connected on 14 of 22 free throws while Neoga hit three of four.

Cremens led the way with 13 points while Emily Konkel added 12 and Kaylee Niebrugge chipped in with 11.

Kaitlyn Schumacher led in rebounds with nine while Niebrugge and Konkel pulled down five each. Niebrugge had three steals.

Neoga was led by Sydney Richards with 10 points. The Indians fall to 21-7 on the season and return to action Wednesday at Dieterich at 4 p.m.

Newton High School held a 19-8 opening quarter lead on Oblong/Palestine/Hutsonville and went on for a 55-39 victory Monday.

The Eagles had a 22-12 third period run. Two players hit double digits for the winners. Amber Russell led the way with 18 points while Ava Kessler added 10. Russell also led in rebounds with 12. Camryn Martin and Ava Kessler had four assists each. Martin led in steals with five.

Newton improved to 10-17 and will travel to Casey-Westfield tonight with a varsity game only starting at 7:30 p.m.

The Eagles also nabbed the junior varsity game, 47-19. Lilly Kessler led Newton with 16 points as the JV team improved to 12-3.

The Pirates held a 34-4 halftime lead. Three players hit double figures for the winners. Zoe Mitchell led the way with 20 points while Sage Carr and Katelyn Shoemaker tallied 13 points each.

Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City ran into a buzzsaw Monday evening and fell to Pana, 86-53.

The Panthers took a 43-31 halftime lead then had a 26-9 third quarter surge. Pana knocked in 12 three-pointers in the contest, four from Hamilton and the rest spread across five players.

CHBC had two players hit double figures. Lani Morrison led the way with nine field goals and two of four at the line for 20. Gracie Heckert chipped in with 18.

Heckert led in rebounds with six while Mady Wojcik and Ruby Stuckemeyer had five each. Morrison led in steals with three. Heckert had six assists.

CHBC dropped to 22-5 on the season and returns to action today hosting Nokomis.

Pana also nabbed the junior varsity game, 55-27. CHBC was led by Macee Rodman with 11 as the team dropped to 10-4.

Altamont traveled to Glen Carbon to face Father McGivney and fell to the homestanders, 66-45 Monday.

Father McGivney held an 18-13 opening quarter lead and led 33-18 at halftime.

Charlize Luehmann led the way for Father McGivney with 30 points. Father McGivney improves to 22-8.

Altamont was led by Grace Nelson with 22 and Peyton Osteen with 14.

Three players hit double figures for Windsor/Stew-Stras. Ella Kinkelaar led the way with 16 points while Ellie Wittenberg and Samatha Hayes had 11 each.
