Altamont, WSS Advance To Final Four Of NTC Tourney

ALTAMONT -- Altamont and Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg were winners Wednesday evening at the 86th National Trail Conference Boys Basketball Tournament. The two squads move into the final four of the NTC meet.

Altamont opened the evening with a 45-34 victory over Neoga.

The two squads played to a 7-7 opening quarter before Altamont moved ahead 25-14 at haltime. Noah Klimpel knocked in a three-pointer in the period while Eric Kollmann led the way with a field goal and two free throws for four points.

Altamont had a 13-11 edge in the third period as Klimpel scored seven. Paci McClure nailed two three-pointers for Neoga.

Altamont continued with a 14-11 final period for the 11-point win.

Klimpel led the way for Atlamont with six field goals that included three trifectas and one of three at the line. Mason Robinson added 12 points, eight coming in the final period as he connected on a three-pointer and was five of six at the line. Altamont improved to 17-5 and will meet Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg in winner bracket play at 7:45 p.m. Friday.

Neoga was led by Brady Reynolds with 11 points on a regular basket and three trifectas. Neoga dropped to 12-7.

In the second game, Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg was a 44-37 winner over South Central.

The Cougars moved into a 9-7 opening quarter lead as Ethan Watwood hit a three-pointer and Spencer Johannes had a field goal and a free throw. South Central continued on with an 11-9 second period to lead 20-16 at halftime. Keenin Willshire hit four of six field goals in the quarter for nine of the 11 points.

Windsor/Stew-Stras came back in the second half with a 12-4 third quarter surge to move ahead 28-24. Austin Wittenberg contributed seven points and Carter Chaney a three-pointer.

The Hatchets continued their run with a 16-13 final period as they hit on six of six from the free throw line.

Finishing in double figures for WSS were A. Wittenberg with 14 points and Samuel Vonderheide with 12.

South Central was led by Willshire with 16. Watwood and Johannes tallied eight each.

The tournament continues tonight with Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City against Neoga at 5 p.m. and St. Elmo/Brownstown taking on Dieterich at 6:30 in consolation bracket action. In winner bracket play, St. Anthony faces North Clay (Louisville) at 8 p.m.
