Neoga Wins National Trail Conference Girls Tourney

Neoga HIgh School claimed the championship of the National Trail Conference Tournament.

BEECHER CITY -- Neoga High School captured the champoinship of the National Trail Conference Girls Basketball Tournament with a 64-58 double overtime win over Altamont Saturday.

Neoga edged out to an 18-16 opening quarter lead and led by that same two points, 33-31 at halftime.

Altamont came back with a 15-12 third period to pull ahead 46-45 going into the final quarter. Neoga had a 6-5 run to knot the score at 51-51, sending the contest into the first overtime. Both teams tallied the same amount of points sending the contest into the second overtime where Neoga pulled out the victory.

Sydney Richards led the way for Neoga with 22 points while Haylee Campbell added 19.

Altamont was led by Grace Nelson with 32 and Kylie Osteen with 14.

In the third place contest, Effingham St. Anthony defeated Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City, 60-47.

The Bulldogs ripped out to a 20-6 opening quarter lead and led 32-20 at halftime. St. Anthony had a 28-27 second half edge.

Three players hit double figures for the Bulldogs. Lucy Fearday led the way with 19 while Riley Guy had 16 and Anna Faber 10.

Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City was led by Gracie Heckert with 19 and Lani Morrison with 13.

In the consolation championship, South Central edged Dieterich, 53-51.

The Cougars held a 32-17 halftime lead but Dieterich came roaring back with an 18-4 third period run to pull within 36-35 going into the final period. South Central then had a 17-16 final quarter.

Laney Webster led the way for the Cougars with 15 points while Brooklyn Garrett added 10.

Dieterich also had two players in double figures. Madilyn Brummer tallied 16 while Ruby Westendorf chipped in with 10.

In the seventh-place game, Brownstown/St. Elmo won over Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg 31-18.

WSS held a 14-12 first half lead but BSE came back with a 19-4 second half for the victory.

Lexi Seabaugh led the winners with 10 points.

WSS was led by Ella Kinkelaar with nine.

Named to the NTC All-Conference Team were Grace Nelson (Altamont) most vauable player, Gracie Heckert (CHBC), Sydney Richards (Neoga), Ella Kinkelaar (WSS), Riley Guy (St. Anthony), Lexi Seabaugh (BSE), Trista Moore (Neoga), Lani Morrison (CHBC), Brooklyn Garrett (South Central), Madilyn Brummer (Dieterich), Haylee Campbell (Neoga) and Lucy Fearday (St. Anthony).
