Altamont Claims Third Place At Sesser-Valier Tourney

SESSER -- Altamont High School defeated Cobden, 45-38, to finish third at the Sesser-Valier Holiday Boys Basketball Tournament Thursday.

The Indians edged out to a 13-10 opening quarter lead as Noah Klimpel and Tyler Robbins nailed a three-pointer each and Eric Kollmann had two regular baskets. Altamont held a 21-16 halftime lead. Klimpel put in another three-pointer while Kollman tallied three on a field goal and free throw.

Cobden came back after halftime to outscore the Indians 8-5 and pull within 26-24. But Altamont put in three trifectas and hit eight of 12 free throws for a 19-14 run and the seven point win.

Klimpel finished as the only player in double figures for Altamont. He hit four three-pointers for 12 points. Jared Hammer tallied nine and Kollman and Mason Robinson scored seven each. The Indians finished with nine three-pointers in the contest.

Named to the All-Tournament Team from Altamont were Noah Klimpel and Mason Robinson.

In other games, Sesser-Valier captured the championship by defeating Christopher, 37-31. Sparta won the consolation championship over Thompsonville, 79-45 and Goreville defeated Coulterville 50-43 for fifth place.
