Olney handed Effingham it's first loss in eighth-grade boys basketball Thursday evening and also claimed the seventh-grade game.

In the eighth-grade matchup, Olney was a 27-14 winner. Olney stepped out to a 9-3 opening quarter lead and led 16-9 at halftime. The Mustangs scored only five points in the final period.

Cole Phillips led the way with six points for Effingham. The Mustangs are now 13-1 on the season.

In seventh-grade play, Olney edged the Mustangs, 39-36. EJHS took a 9-6 opening quarter lead but Olney came back to lead 18-15 at halftime. The Mustangs had a 14-12 third period and Olney finished with a 9-7 final quarter for the win.

Braddy led the way for Effingham with 18 points. EJHS drops to 3-11.

At Altamont

Altamont captured two junior high wins over Mulberry Grove Thursday.

The seventh-grade squad pounded Mulberry Grove, 43-8. Altamont took a 16-0 opening quarter lead and that was the contest.

Reardon led the way for the winners wih 12 points while Buchanan added nine.

In the eighth-grade game, Altamont captured a 39-33 win. Altamont led 21-13 at halftime. Mulberry Grove pulled within 29-23 going into the final period then both teams played to a 10-10 final period.

Altamont was led by Veteto with 25 points. He connected on 12 field goals, one a three-pointer.

At Strasburg

Stewardson-Strasburg tallied two wins over Neoga in Thursday evening play.

In the seventh-grade encounter, Stew-Stras was a 44-18 winner. Neoga held a 7-5 opening quarter lead but Stew-Stras came back to outscore Neoga 29-5 over the next two quarters.

W. Vonderheide led the way for Stew-Stras with 14 points. The team improved to 7-2 in the National Trail Conference and 13-4 overall.

Neoga was led by Ray and Coy with seven points each.

In the eighth-grade game, Stew-Stras won 41-11. Stew-Stras led 20-5 at halftime.

The squad, which improved to 7-2 in the conference, 9-5 overall, was led by Sayers with 19 points.

Neoga was led by Bryant with four.

At Strasburg

At Louisville

North Clay (Louisville) and South Central split victories in action Thursday evening.

South Central claimed the seventh-grade contest, 38-25. South Central trailed 7-6 after the opening quarter but had a 13-4 third period run.

The winners were led by Westin Neilson with 19 and Luke Shumate with 10.

North Clay was led by L. Griffy with 19.

In the eighth-grade contest, North Clay picked up a 58-21 victory.

North Clay led 14-7 after the opening quarter and 34-13 at halftime.

Czimoes led the way for the winners with 22 points while Compton and Groves had 10 each.

South Central was led by Neilson with eight.
