SEB Moves Into Title Contest, N. Clay Falls At Conrad Allen Tourney

ST. ELMO -- Fourth-seeded St. Elmo/Brownstown edged top-seeded South Central 41-38 to move into the championship game of the 61st Annual St. Elmo Holiday Boys Basketball Tournament Thursday evening.

South Central took a 9-7 opening quarter lead but the Eagles came back with a 9-4 second period to lead 16-13 at halftime. The two teams played to a 10-10 third quarter and a 15-15 final period.

SEB hit 42 percent from the field and 45 percent at the line while South Central was 66 percent at the free throw line and 34 percent from the field.

Nobody finished in double figures for SEB but Jarrett Pasley and Caleb Campbell taliled nine points each. Seven players scored for the Eagles. Brady Maxey pulled down nine rebounds. Pasley and Campbell had two assists each. Pasley and Gavyn Smith ahd two steals each.

South Central was led by Keenin Willshire with 11 points and Ethan Watwood with nine. Willshire led in rebounds with eight. Spencer Johannes and Watwood had two steals each. Johannes led in assists with four.

St. Elmo/Brownstown moves into the championship game Saturday at 7:30 p.m. against either Cumberland or Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg. Those two teams play tonight at 7:45.

South Central drops into the third place game at 6 p.m. Saturday against either Ramsey or Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City. Those two teams play at 6:15 p.m. today.

Also Thursday evening, Patoka/Odin defeated Mulberry Grove, 64-52.

Other contests Saturday include the seventh-place game at 3 against Mulberry Grove and the loser of Ramsey vs. CHBC and the consolation championship with Patoka/Odin facing the winner of Ramsey vs. CHBC at 4:30.

Conrad Allen Tournament

In the Conrad Allen Tournament at Wayne City, Sandoval was a forfeit winner over Fairfield and Crab Orchard defeated Grayville, 78-48.

In the third game of the evening, Webber Township (Bluford) downed North Clay (Louisville), 67-53.

The Cardinals took an 18-15 opening quarter lead but Webber Township came back with an 18-7 second period to lead 33-25 at halftime. Webber then had a 16-13 third period to lead 49-38 going into the final quarter and finished out with an 18-15 run.

Webber Township had four players hit double figures. Marlow led with 16 points while Lewis had 14, Hamerski with 13 and W. Hails with 10.

North Clay was led by Bryton Griffy with 24 on 11 field goals and two of two at the line.

Tonight's games feature Cisne against Sandoval at 5:30, North Clay taking on Crab Orchard at 7 and Edwards County facing Wayne City at 8:30.

The tourney finishes out Saturday with the seventh-place game featuring Gallatin County against Grayville at 2:30. The rest of the games still have to be decided. The fifth-place game is at 4, the third place game at 5:30 and the championship at 7.
