SEB, South Central Claim Opening Round Wins at SEB Tourney

ST. ELMO -- St. Elmo/Brownstown and South Central were opening round winners in the 61st Annual St. Elmo Holiday Boys Basketball Tournament Tuesday.

South Central handed Mulberry Grove an 82-34 loss. The Cougars had 12 players score in the contest led by Aidan Dodson with 22 points, Keenin Willshire with 14 and Ethan Watwood with 13.

The Cougars held a 14-8 opening quarter lead and led 40-16 at halftime. South Central had a 70-30 lead going into the final quarter.

Watwood connected on three trifectas in the contest. Dodson hit nine baskets that included a three-pointer and was three of three at the line. South Central is 6-3.

In the second game, St. Elmo/Brownstown trailed Patoka 27-22 at halftime. The Eagles then had a 19-7 third quarter run and finished out with an 11-8 final period for the 52-42 win. SEB improved to 8-3.

SEB hit 40 percent from the field and 54 percent at the line. Jarrett Pasley was the lone player in double figures with 20 on seven of 12 from the field and three of three at the line. Gavyn Smith and Caleb Campbell scored nine each.

The tournament continues tonight as Cumberland meets Ramsey at 6:15 while Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg faces Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City at 7:45.

At Wayne City

The Conrad Allen Tournament continued at Wayne City with three games Tuesday evening.

Cisne defeated Gallatin County, 64-39 in the opener. Webber Township (Bluford) won over Crab Orchard, 82-67 and Edwards County (Albion) downed Sandoval, 65-48.

The tourney continues tonight with Gallatin County against Edwards County at 6 p.m. followed by Cisne meeting Wayne City at 7:30.

Wayne City, Cisne and Webber Township are 2-0 while North Clay is 1-0, Edwards County 1-1, Grayville, Gallatin County and Sandoval are 0-2 and Crab Orchard 0-1.
