TOWER HILL -- Effingham split wins against Pana Sacred Heart in junior high boys basketball Monday.

In the seventh-grade contest, the Mustangs lost a heart-breaker, 53-52 in overtime.

EJHS took a 19-9 opening quarter lead but Pana came back with a 16-6 second quarter to tie the score at 25-25 at halftime. The Mustangs moved ahead 35-34 going into the final period. Pana came back with a 12-11 run to send the contest into overtime and won with a 7-6 score.

Carter Braddy tallied 17 for Effingham while Jake Niebrugge and Reid Nohren scored 11 each.

In the eighth-grade contest, Effingham downed Pana Sacred Heart, 47-29.

The Mustangs edged out to a 7-6 opening quarter lead and pushed that to 21-11 at halftime. Max Flack and James Wise scored five each in the second quarter run.

Effingham then had a 19-6 third period. Wise led the way for the Mustangs with 14 points while Flack chipped in with 11. The Mustangs had six players out with illness but still managed to move to 13-0 on the season.

At Casey

Teutopolis won the seventh-grade contest but fell in eighth-grade play to Casey-Westfield Monday.

The Wooden Shoes won the seventh-grade game by a 28-24 count. T-town took a 7-4 opening quarter lead and led 13-6 at halftime. Casey-Westfield came back with an 18-15 second half but couldn't make up that first half deficit.

Jake Kocher led the Shoes with 16 points.

In the eighth-grade encounter, Casey-Westfield came out with a 41-24 win. Casey-Westfield led 21-12 at halftime then had a 20-12 second half.

Isaac McWhorter led T-town with eight points.

At Newton

Jasper County downed Martinsville in both contests Monday.

Jasper County won the seventh-garde game easily, 41-17. Jasper County had a 21-4 halftime lead.

Parker Harris scored seven while Henry WIll, Nolan Cleaver and Logan Burgener tallied six each. Jasper County improved to 8-5.

In the eighth-grade contest, Jasper County ran out to a 44-5 halftime lead and went on for a 65-9 victory.

David Ferguson scored 21 and Drake Wolf 11 for the winners who improved to 6-7.

At Kinmundy

Vandalia came calling and picked up two wins over South Central Monday.

Vandalia won the seventh-grade contest 39-23. Vandalia held a 24-13 halftime lead and led by 11 going into the final period.

South Central was led by Luke Shumate with nine points.

In the eighth-grade contest, Vandalia claimed a 43-18 victory.

South Central was led by Trevan Sidwell with five points.
