St. Michael Wins State 7-1A Basketball Championship; Teutopolis Gets Third in 7-2A Tournament

The Sigel St. Michael Sharpshooters are the state champions of Girls 7-1A basketball!

St. Michael defeated Ottawa Marquette 32-24 in the championship game Thursday night at Central A&M Middle School. St. Michael stormed to an 11-2 lead at the end of one quarter, but Marquette had cut the lead to 18-12 by halftime. Marquette had pulled to within 24-20 after three quarters, but St. Michael outpointed Marquette 8-4 in the final quarter to post the eight-point win.

Kailyn Gaddis and Sophia Cremens each scored 10 points to lead the St. Michael attack. Also for St. Michael: Kaylie Jordan 4, Cara Hatten 3, Nora Bueker 2, Brooklyn Will 2, and Kaelyn Ordner 1. Also on the squad: Molly Moran, Natalie Ballinger, Kinley Titus, Alisyn Kollman, Kendal Lindsey and Ava Miller.

Congratulations to Coach Jayme Petty and the Sharpshooters, who finished 23-3, on the state title.

Meanwhile, the Teutopolis Lady Shoes captured the third place game at the State 7-2A Tournament. Teutopolis beat Havana 20-6 in the contest at Paris High School.

Teutopolis led 6-0 after one quarter and were up 12-1 at halftime. It was 16-5 after three quarters and the Shoes outscored Havana 4-1 in the final quarter.

Kylie Borries led Teutopolis with nine points, Chloe Hoene scored five, Elise Pals four, and Olivia Roley two points. Other team members are Adrienne Koester, Clara Mette, Gabby Tegeler, Jersey Gaddis, Kaylee Roedl, and Brittany Swingler. 

Teutopolis finished with a 25-4 mark for Coach Eric Roley.
