Sigel St. Michael, T-town Eighth-Grade Girls Advance To State

Sigel St. Michael won the Class 8-1A Pana Sacred Heart Girls Basketball Sectional Wednesday evening.

The Sharpshooters defeated Kincaid South Fork, 50-35 and improved to 22-1 on the season.

St. Michael will now head to the State Tournament at Clinton Junior High School Saturday and take on Ottawa Wallace at 11:30 a.m.

The Sharpshooters seventh-grade squad is playing for the Class 7-1A State Tournament championship tonight at Assumption Central A&M Middle School against Ottawa Marquette at 7:30 p.m.

 

Class 8-2A Effingham St. Anthony Sectional

Teutopolis claimed the championship of the St. Anthony Sectional with a 36-14 win over Brownstown/St. Elmo Wednesday.

T-town held BSE scoreless to take a 9-0 first quarter lead and led 18-6 at halftime. The Wooden Shoes had an 18-8 second half.

Anna Probst led the Shoes in scoring with 11 points. Malea Helmink chipped in with seven. BSE was led by Haslett and Sasse with six points each.

The Shoes are now 27-0 on the season and advance to the State Tournament at Havana High School Saturday.

T-town will take on Mount Pulaski (22-2) at 11:30 a.m.

T-town is also competing in the Class 7-2A State Tournament today at Paris High School. The Shoes will meet Havana for third place at 6 p.m.

Class 8-4A Mahomet-Seymour Sectional

Effingham Junior High School fell to host Mahomet-Seymour in the 8-4A Sectional Wednesday, 34-24.

The host squad shot out to an 13-6 opening quarter lead and led 20-11 at halftime. 

Martin scored all six points for the Mustangs in the opening quarter.

Mahomet-Seymour held a 26-18 lead going into the final quarter and had an 8-6 edge for the win.

Martin led Effingham with 16 points.

Mahomet-Seymour advances to the Class 8-4A State Tournament Saturday at Riverton High School with a 24-1 record and will meet Lake Zurich North (24-0) at 2:30 p.m.
