Bulldogs Beat CHBC, Hearts Fall To Green Wave

Effingham St. Anthony picked up a National Trail Conference high school boys basketball win over Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City, 87-55 Tuesday evening.

The Bulldogs edged out to a 19-17 opening quarter lead as Craig Croy scored nine points and Adam Rudibaugh added six. For the Bobcats, Kade Persinger scored eight.

St. Anthony then went on a 25-12 second period run to lead 44-29 at halftime. Rudibaugh contiued with eight points while Griffin Sehy contributed seven.

The Bulldogs wore the Bobcats down further with a 25-16 third period and an 18-10 final quarter.

Sehy got into the scoring groove with 11 in the third quarter and nine in the final period to lead the Bulldogs with 27 points. He connected on eight field goals that included six three-pointers, five coming in the second half, and was five of six at the line. Croy tallied 21 on nine field goals, two of those three-pointers, and was one of four at the line. Also contributing double figures was Rudibaugh with 16.

The Bulldogs connected on 12 three-pointers in the contest as Sehy had six, Croy and Michael Martelli two each and Teddy Dietzen one.

CHBC was led by Silas Buzzard with 17, 11 in the third period. He connected on seven field goals that included three trifectas. Jadon Robertson scored 11 and Persinger added 10.

St. Anthony won the junior varsity contest, 54-29. M. Martelli and B. Fearday scored 13 each. CHBC was led by Lorton with 10.

In freshman/sophomore action, St. Anthony edged CHBC, 32-27. Nick Ruholl led with 10 for the Bulldogs. CHBC was led by Radloff with 11.

At Mattoon

Efifngham High School ran into a buzzsaw Tuesday evening in Apollo Conference action.

The Hearts traveled to Mattoon and fell to the Green Wave, 64-24. The Green Wave rushed out to a 12-4 opening quarter lead as Cooper Bergstrom knocked in three baskets, one a three-pointer, for seven points while Jaycen Middleton tallied five.

The Hearts did not get a basket in that opening quarter and scored all four points on two free throws each by Andrew Splechter and Dalton Fox.

Mattoon pushed ahead 26-11 at halftime and had a 17-7 third period run to lead 43-18. The Green Wave finished out strong with a 21-6 final quarter.

Bergstrom tallied 15 for the winners while Middleton chipped in with 13. Eleven players scored for Mattoon.

Effingham was led by Garrett Wolfe with five field goals that included two three-pointers for 13.

The Hearts finished with 21 turnovers in the contest.

The Hearts claimed the junior varsity game, 43-34.
