Effingham won the Class 8-4A Girls Basketball Regional Friday.

The Mustangs, seeded No. 1, handed No. 2 seeded Mount Zion a 22-18 loss. The Mustangs advance to the Mahomet-Seymour Sectional Wednesday to face the winner of the Mahomet-Seymour Sectional. Mahomet-Seymour won its own regional by bouncing Urbana, 34-9.

The two teams will square off at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday.

 

Class Class 8-2A Teutopolis Regional

Teutopolis, seeded  No. 1, claimed its own regional by beating second-seeded Edwards County (Albion), 31-17 Friday.

The Wooden Shoes took a 19-4 halftime lead.

Kelsey Niemerg and Allie Ruholl scored nine points each for the winners.

In the Class 8-2A Madison Regional, Brownstown/St. Elmo claimed the victory over Altamont. No score was reported.

BSE will now meet Teutopolis Wednesday in the Effingham St. Anthony Sectional at 6:30 p.m.
