EHS, Neoga Nab High School Girls Cage Victories

LOUISVILLE -- Effingham High School handed North Clay (Louisville) a 45-27 loss in girls basketball competition Saturday. and now stands at 7-0 on the season.

The Hearts stepped out to a 13-8 opening quarter lead as Ella Niebrugge and Coralin Ohnesorge connected on a three-pointer each and Bria Beals added two baskets.

The Hearts held a 26-16 halftime lead. Niebrugge hit a three-pointer and Beals two trifectas in the second quarter.

EHS continued its run with a 13-4 third period and finished out with the win.

Niebrugge tallied 12 on four three-pointers while Beal added 10.

North Clay was led by Miah Ballard with nine points.

At Louisville

At Neoga

Neoga High School improved to 6-1 with a 52-42 victory over Cumberland Saturday.

The Indians edged out to a 15-11 opening quarter lead and led 32-24 at halftime.

Two players scored in double figures for the winners. Sydney Richards led the way with 18 points on eight field goals, two of those three-pointers. Trista Moore chipoped in with 13 on six field goals and one of two at the line. Avery Fearday had four assists. Richards had six rebounds, six blocked shots and four steals.

Neoga is back in action Monday at South Central.

Cumberland was led by Sage Carr with 12 points and Katelyn Shoemaker with 11.

At Brownstown

Webber Township (Bluford) came calling and handed Brownstown/St. Elmo a 52- 43 loss Friday.

BSE took an 11-9 opening quarter lead behind Jayne Ireland's six points while Audrey Wilhour added a three-pointer.

But Webber Township went on a 16-4 second period run to lead 25-15 at halftime. BSE came back with a 16-15 third quarter to pull within 40-31 but both teams then tallied 12 each in the final period.

BSE was led by Ireland with 11 points while Avery Myers and Laney Baldrige added eight each.

At Brownstown
