St. Michael Advances To Title Game, T-town To Play For Third At Seventh-Grade State Girls Tournaments

ASSUMPTION -- Sigel St. Michael had a good Saturday, picking up two victories at the Class 7-1A State Girls Basketball Tournament at Assumpton Central A&M Middle School.

The Sharpshooters easily handled Armstrong-Ellis in the opener, 46-7. St. Michael swept out to a 12-0 opening quarter lead and led 23-0 at halftime.

Two players scored in double figures for the winners. Cara Hatton led the way with 14 points on five field goals and four of six at the line while teammate Brooklyn Will scored three field goals and four of seven at the line for 10.

In other first round games, Danville Schlarman downed Kewanee Visitation, 32-11 while Ottawa Marquette won over Carrolton St. John, 29-12 and Lincoln West Lincoln-Broadwell downed Peoria St. Jude, 32-12.

In the semifinals, St. Michael defeated Lincoln West Lincoln-Broadwell, 43-17. The Sharpshooters edged out to a 6-5 opening quarter lead and led 13-10 at halftime.

St. Michael then went on a tear with a 23-5 third period and put the contest away. Hatton again led the way with 19 points on seven field goals and five of 10 at the line. Will also gained double figures again, this time with 11 points on three field goals, one a three-pointer, and two of two at the line.

In the other semifinal, Ottawa Marquette edged Danville Schlarman, 34-31.

St. Michael now faces Ottawa Marquette at 7:30 p.m. Thursday while Danville Schlarman meets Lincoln West Lincoln-Broadwell at 6 p.m. for third place.

Class 7-2A State Tournament

Teutopolis competed in the Class 7-2A State Tournament at Paris High School Saturday.

The Wooden Shoes won their opener 25-10 over Colfax Ridgeview.

T-town trailed Ridgeview 6-2 after the opeing quarter then edged ahead 7-6 at halftime. T-town had a 10-4 third period and blanked Colfax Ridgeview 8-0 in the final quarter.

Kylie Borries led the Shoes with eight points while Chloe Hoene added six.

In other opening games, Paris Crestwood defeated Mount Sterilng Brown County, 30-17, Havana won over Bourbonnais St. George, 20-14 and Mount Pulaski downed Peoria St. Vincent de Paul, 37-15.

In the semifinals, Paris Crestwood defeated T-town, 37-12. Crestwood leaped out to a 14-4 opening quarter lead and led 17-8 at halftime. Crestwood had an 18-4 second half.

T-town was led by Hoene with six points.

In the other semifinal, Mount Pulaski downed Havana, 27-10.

Paris Crestwood meets Mount Pulaski at 7:30 p.m. Thursday for the state championship while T-town will face Havana at 6 p.m. for third place.
