Effingham and Effingham St. Anthony split junior high boys basketball victories Thursday evening.

The eighth-grade contest brought in two unbeaten teams as St. Anthony stood at 11-0 while Effingham came in at 8-0.

Effingham ended up pulling out a 40-37 win. The Mustangs stepped out to a 16-10 opening quarter lead and led 25-20 at halftime. Wade Bushur nailed two three-pointers for the Mustangs while Cole Phillips tallied six.

The Bullpups came back with an 8-7 third quarter to pull within 32-28 and had a 9-8 final period only to fall short.

The Mustangs were led by Phillips with 14 and Bushur with nine. James Wise chipped in with eight. The Mustangs improve to 9-0.

Henry Brent led St. Anthony with 15 points while Aiden Lauritzen added 14. The Bullpups drop to 11-1.

In the seventh-grade game, St. Anthony nabbed a 38-28 victory.

The Bullpups ripped out to a 13-3 opening quarter lead but Effingham came back with a 12-2 second period to knot the score at 15-15 at hafltime.

St. Anthony then had a 15-6 third period run and finished out with an 8-7 final quarter.

Will Bierman led with 13 while Miles Waldhoff added nine.

Effingham was led by Carter Braddy with 10.

At St. Anthony

At Vandalia

Teutopolis tallied two victories over host Vandalia Thursday evening.

The Wooden Shoes won the seventh-grade contest, 47-42.

T-town held a 22-19 halftime lead. Vandalia came back with a 13-8 third quarter to lead 32-30 going into the final period. T-town then tied the score sending the game into overtime. In the overtime period, T-town had a 7-2 score for the win.

Kocher led T-town with 14 points while Cornell added 11.

In eighth-grade play, T-town was a 32-12 winner. T-town held a 15-6 halftime lead and had an 11-2 third period run.

McWhorter was the lone player in double figures in the game with 13.

At Odin

South Central won both contests against Odin in seventh- and eighth-grade action Thursday.

In the seventh-grade game, South Central was a 39-23 winner and improved to 8-5 on the season.

Colton Cartright led the way with 13 points while Westin Neilson added 11 for the winners.

South Central held a 24-8 halftime lead.

In the eighth-grade game, South Central won 49-27. South Central took a 24-16 halftime lead then had a 17-4 third period.

Trevan Sidwell led the win with 15 points while Neilson added 14. The winners improved to 5-6.
