Sigel St. Michael, T-town Headed to Seventh-Grade Girls State Tourneys

Teutopolis advances to the Class 7-2A State Basketball Tournament Saturday.

Teutopolis claimed the championship of the Class 7-2A Effingham St. Anthony Girls Basketball Sectional Wednesday evening and will be headed to the State Tournament.

The Wooden Shoes and Brownstown/St. Elmo played to a 6-6 opening quarter tie. BSE moved ahead with an 8-2 second period to lead 14-8 at halftime.

BSE had a 2-1 third period and led 16-9 going into the final period. The Wooden Shoes went on a run, outscoring Brownstown/St. Elmo 11-1 in the final period to pull out a 20-17 victory.

Gabby Tegeler tallied seven points for the winners while Kylie Borries chipped in with five.

BSE was led by D. Haslett with nine and M. Miller with six.

The Shoes head to the Class 2-7A State Tournament at Paris High School Saturday and will meet Colfax Ridgeview at 10 a.m. T-town comes into the meeting with a 23-3 record while Colfax Ridgeview is 22-3.

Other members of the state tourney field include Paris Crestwood (23-0), Mount Sterling Brown County (22-1), Bourbonnais St. George (12-4), Havana (21-4), Mount Pulaski (23-1) and Peoria St. Vincent de Paul (22-4).

The first six games will be played Saturday with the winners advancing to the State Tournament championship Thursday, December 9 at 7:30 p.m. and the losers playing for third place at 6.

Class 7-1A Sigel St. Michael Sectional

Sigel St. Michael claimed the championship of its own sectional with a 42-32 victory over Pana Sacred Heart Wednesday.

The Sharpshooters advance with a 20-3 record to the State Tournament Saturday, December 4 and will face Armstrong-Ellis (15-5) at 1 p.m.

Other members of the tournament field include Danville Schlarman (17-0), Kewanee Visitation (20-0), Ottawa Marquette (19-1), Carrollton St. John (15-5), Lincoln West LIncoln-Broadwell (16-6) and Peoria St. Jude (17-7).

There will be six games Saturday with the winners advancing to the State Tournament championship Thursday, December 9 at 7:30 p.m. and the losers playing for third place at 6.
