DIETERICH -- Altamont High School's Grace Nelson was too much for Dieterich to handle in a 47-37 girls basketball victory Monday evening in a game heard on KJ Country 102.3.

Nelson scored five points in the opening quarter, the same as Dieterich, and went on to finish with 28 as the Indians claimed the win.

Nelson connected on seven field goals that included two three-pointers and was 12 of 13 at the line. Also in double figures for Altamont was Peyton Osteen with 13 on five field goals that included three trifectas.

Nelson also pulled down seven rebounds in the contest. Claire Boehm and P. Osteen had five rebounds each.

Altamont held a 21-18 halftime lead then had a 15-6 third quarter surge as Nelson connected on two baskets and was six of six at the line.

Dieterich was led by Cortney Brummer with 12 points.

Dieterich nabbed the junior varsity win, 25-11.

At Okaw Valley

Effingham St. Anthony tallied a 53-35 win over Okaw Valley in a non-conference contest Monday evening.

The Bulldogs took a 10-5 opening quarter lead as Riley Guy connected for seven points on three field goals and a free throw. Guy continued her hot scoring with nine points in the second period but the Bulldogs held only a 23-20 lead at halftime.

Then in the third quarter, St. Anthony took off with a 17-7 run as five players scored. The Bulldogs then had a 13-8 final period.

Guy finished with 22 points on nine field goals, two of those three-pointers, and two of four at the line. Also in double figures was Stacie Vonderheide with five field goals for 10 points. Grace Karolewicz was on the verge with nine points.

St. Anthony easily handled Okaw Valley in junior varsity action, 44-2.

At Neoga

Neoga nabbed a win over Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg Monday as two National Trail Conference teams met.

The Indians held a 24-18 halftime lead then put the game away with a 16-6 third quarter.

Sydney Richards led the way for Neoga with 23 points on 11 field goals and one of two at the line. Also in double figures was Haylee Campbell with 11.

Neoga improves to 4-1 overall and will return to action at North Clay (Louisville) Thursday.

Windsor/Stew-Stras was led by Ella Kinkelaar with 13 points on three field goals and seven of 10 at the line.

In the junior varsity game, Neoga was a 28-19 winner.

Cumberland trounced Casey-Westfield, 61-16 in Monday evening action.

The Pirates had three players hit double figures in even scoring. Katelyn Shoemaker, Sage Carr and Zoe Mitchell scored 14 points each for the winners. Shoemaker connected on six field goals and was two of four at the line while Carr hit seven field goals and Mitchell scored five buckets and was four of four at the line.

Casey-Wesfield was led by Elle Shull with eight points.

At Farina

Brownstown/St. Elmo held a 31-23 halftime lead on South Central but the homestanding Cougars came back with a 16-8 third period to knot the score at 39-39 then had a 7-2 final quarter to pull out the 56-41 victory as two National Trail Conference teams clashed.

BSE had a 15-6 second quarter as Jayna Ireland scored six points and Sydney Stine added four.

Brooklyn Garrett gave the Cougars a slight 17-16 opening quarter edge, scoring nine of those points.

South Central came back to tie the score in the third period as five players tallied points. Then in the final period, Laney Webster hit four of four free throws and scored five more points on two baskets for nine of her team's 17 points.

Weber finished with 19 points to lead the way while Garrett was a point behind at 18.

BSE was led by Stine with 16 and Ireland with 12.

At Newton

Newton continues to improve, taking a 32-29 win over Sullivan in Monday evening competition.

Sullivan stepped out to a 17-10 halftime lead but Newton came back with a 14-6 third quarter and had an 8-6 final period for the victory.

Ava Kessler scored 12 for the lone player in double figures in the contest. She hit three field goals and was six of seven at the line. Amber Russell led in rebounds with 10. Alexis Hetzer, A. Kessler and Elle Bennett had five boards each. Bennett led in steals with four and A. Kessler had three.

The Eagles improve to 3-4 on the season and will host Paris Thursday.

In the junior varsity contest, Newton was a 33-31 winner in overtime.
