SEB, North Clay Nab Victories In Tourneys

MULBERRY GROVE -- St. Elmo/Brownstown won on the first night of the Mulberry Grove First Community Bank Turkey Boys Basketball Tournament Monday evening.

The Eagles tallied a 55-43 win over Mount Olive.

Caleb Campbell got SEB off in the right direction, scoring seven opening quarter points as the Eagles led 11-6. Adam Atwood took over in the second period connecting on three baskets, two of those from three-point range, for eight points as SEB led 24-16 at halftime.

Mount Olive came back with a 19-14 third quarter run to pull within three going into the final period. But SEB came back strong with a 17-8 final run to finish out the win.

Atwood tallied 19, hitting six field goals, including three trifectas and two of two at the line for 19. Campbell tallied 13 on five field goals that included a three-pointer and two of two at the line.

In the opener, Father McGivney defeated Ramsey, 56-23. Mulberry Grove finished out the evening by downing Lebanon, 59-40.

The round-robin tournament will continue tonight as Lebanon faces Mount Olive at 5:15, Patoka takes on Father McGivney at 6:45 and Ramsey meets Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City at 8:15.

Cumberland Turkey Tournament

Two games were contested in the Cumberland Turkey Tournament Monday evening.

In the opener, Casey-Westfield defeated Oblong, 65-20.

The second contest went to North Clay (Louisville) over Okaw Valley 78-76 in double overtime.

Logan Fleener led the way for North Clay with 27 points while Dakota Weidner added 14 and Alex Boose 13.

North Clay and Casey-Westfield advance in the winner bracket to meet Friday at 6 p.m. Odin/Palestine/Hutsonville and Okaw Valley drop into the consolation bracket and meet Friday at 3 p.m.

Tonight's games feature Cumberland facing Vandalia at 6 p.m. followed by Newton against Dieterich at 7:30.
