BEECHER CITY -- Sigel St. Michael captured the championship of the National Trail Conference Eighth-Grade Girls Basketball Tournament Saturday.

The Sharpshooters handed Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg a 33-16 loss.

St. Michael had a 10-3 opening quarter lead as Ruholl tallied seven points and led 19-11 at halftime. Ruholl scored six more in the third quarter 12-5 run and finished with 17 to lead St. Michael. Hatton and Jordan scored six points each.

Windsor/Stew-Stras was led by Longwell with nine.

In the third place game, Brownstown/St. Elmo zipped out to a 12-0 opening quarter lead on Altamont. BSE then led 22-6 at halftime and had a 14-4 third quarter run.

P. Williams led the way for the winners with 16 points while B. Booher added 11.

Altamont was led by K. Lurkins with eight.

The consolation championship went to Dieterich over Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City, 18-13

The two teams were tied at 6-6 at halftime before CHBC took an 11-9 third quarter lead. Dieterich came back with a 9-2 final quarter to pull out the win.

Ad. Miller led the way with seven points for the winners.

CHBC was led by Helena Bowlin, Haley Doty and Maddie Dawson with four each.

In the consolation bracket games Friday evening, CHBC was a 36-5 winner over Neoga.

CHBC took a 9-4 first half lead then had a 12-1 third quarter and outdistanced Neoga 27-1 in the second half.

Maddie Dawson tallied 13 while Haley Doty 11 for the winners. Neoga was led by M. Henderson and E. Frankie with two each.

In the second contest, Dieterich edged South Central, 25-20.

Dieterich took a 16-9 first half lead then held off a second half challenge as South Central came back with an 11-9 run.

M. Hahn, A. Uthell and Ad. Miller tallied six points each for Dieterich.

South Central was led by P. Reid with eight.
