Back after a year off for COVID-19, the field has been announced for the 2021 Effingham/Teutopolis Christmas Classic.

The tournament will utilize the courts at both Effingham and Teutopolis High Schools and will be held from Tuesday through Thursday, December 28-30.

There is plenty of local flavor as the Effingham Hearts, Teutopolis Wooden Shoes and St. Anthony Bulldogs will be back. The field will also feature Mattoon and Charleston, and the Newton Eagles will make their first appearance in the tournament.

Both Champaign Centennial and Champaign St. Thomas More are a part of the field and perennial central Illinois power Pleasant Plains will be back.

There is a good Chicagoland contingent, including Belvidere, Chicago Brooks, Dixon, Horizon SW Chicago (to replace Chicago Corliss), Lincoln Way East, and Oak Lawn. Also in the field is Lutheran North from St. Louis.

Mike Wilson of the tournament committee said the event should feature a good balance of local and area teams as well as some schools that the area's basketball fans otherwise might not get to enjoy.

Additional tournament information will be forthcoming.
