Thompson Named MVP At IBCA All-Star Basketball Game

PONTIAC -- Effingham High School's Nathan Thompson was named the Most Valuable Player for the Class 3A-4A South boys All-Star Basketball team Saturday at Pontiac High School.

Thompson was a member of the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association All-Star squad. Unfortunately, Thompson's team fell to the 3A/4A North team, 106-101.

Other Apollo Conference members of the team included Dylan Singleton and Landon Hullinger, both of Lincoln High School.

The head coach was Eddie Matthews of Limestone with assistant coaches Tom Lacher of Peoria Notre Dame and Dan Grieves of Metamora.

Two local players were on the Class 1-2A South boys squad and those included Evan Wermert of Teutopolis and Kaden Eirhart of Altamont. Their team fell to the North team, 121-85.

The coaches were head coach Tom Brannan of Casey-Westfield and assistants Ian Littlejohn, Aaron Warner and Cobe Brannan of  Casey-Westfield.

One local girl, Lexie Niebrugge from Teutopolis, played for the Class 1A-2A South All-Stars. Her team fell to the North squad, 100-68.

Greg Bennett of Lewistown was the head coach while Jim Robertson (Illini Bluffs) and Joey McLaughlin (Lewistown) were assistants.

The Class 3A/4A North squad defeated the South team, 102-71.
