Effingham and Teutopolis split junior high girls basketball victories Thursday.

 

The Wooden Shoes claimed the seventh-grade encounter, 37-29. Effingham led 20-18 at halftime but the Shoes came back with an 8-5 third quarter and outscored the Mustangs 11-4 in the final quarter.

M. Helmink tallied 19 points to lead the Shoes. EJHS was led by Martin with 10. T-town improves to 7-1.

In eighth-grade action, Effingham pulled out the 26-23 win.

The Mustangs led 12-10 at halftime then had a 10-6 third quarter and held off the Shoes in the final period.

Donaldson and Althoff provided the one-two scoring punch with 10 points each for the Mustangs.

T-town was led by A. Probst with nine points. T-town falls to 3-4.

At Effingham

At Effingham

Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City tallied two victories over Effingham Sacred Heart Thursday.

CHBC won the seventh-grade game, 17-10. The Sharmocks held a 6-4 halftime lead but CHBC came back in the second half with a 13-4 run to pull out the win.

CHBC was led by Haley Doty with six points. The winners improved to 5-5 on the season.

Sacred Heart was led by Braun with eight.

In the eighth-grade game, CHBC took a 20-11 halftime lead and had a 19-8 second half for a 39-19 win.

Macee Rodman scored 17 points on eight field goals and one free throw. CHBC is ow 6-4.

Sacred Heart was led by Hecht with 11 points.

At Mattoon

Effingham St. Anthony fell to Mattoon in both seventh- and eighth-grade basketball action Thursday.

Mattoon claimed the seventh-grade contest 32-11 with a 19-5 opening half.

Leading the Bullpups was M. Hoene with seven.

In eighth-grade action, Mattoon was a 40-19 winner. Mattoon led 25-9 at halftime.

Leading St. Anthony was A. Nuxoll with 15 points.
