Altamont Hands St. Anthony 74-51 Girls Basketball Loss

Altamont HIgh School had a big offensive night, leading Effingham St. Anthony 61-39 after three quarters and finishing out with a 74-51 girls basketball victory Thursday evening.

The Indians were paced by freshman Grace Nelson, who scored 36 points with eight rebounds; Brooke Runge scored 16 points along with eight rebounds and half a dozen blocked shots; Peyton Osteen had eight points and a team-leading nine rebounds; also for Altamont: Remi Miller five, Brianna Grunloh five, and Taylor Mette four.

Lucy Fearday had a huge game for St. Anthony with 24 points and 18 rebounds; Riley Guy scored 14 points, Grace Karolewicz seven, Anna Faber four, and Reese Jones two.

Altamont was 30 of 72 from the field for 42% including six of 17 threes, and made 8 of 12 foul shots. St. Anthony made 20 of 61 shots for 33% including 2 of 10 threes, and made 9 of 14 free throws.

St. Anthony outrebounded Altamont 42-33, but the Bulldogs turned the ball over 22 times to just nine for Altamont.

At Effingham

Effingham High School handed Mahomet-Seymour a 48-42 Apollo Conference loss in action Thursday.

The Hearts and Bulldogs played to a 9-9 opening quarter tie before EHS went on a 19-8 second period run to lead 28-17 at halftime.

Mahomet-Seymour came back with a 17-11 third quarter to pull wtihin 39-34 going into the final period. EHS then had a 9-8 edge to pull out the six-point victory.

Annie Frost led EHS in the opening quarter with six points and finished out with 15. Meredith Schaefer cmae through in the second quarter run with 10 points on three baskets that included two three-poitners and wa two of two at the line. Also finishing in double digits was taylor Armstrong with 10.
