SHELBYVILLE -- Effingham St. Anthony and Shelbyville split boys junior high basketball victories Monday.

The Bullpups captured the seventh-grade contest, 45-11. St. Anthony's defense held Shelbyville to six first half points while taking a 20-6 halftime lead.

C. Pennington tallied 15 to lead the Bullpups while O. Brown added 11.

In the eighth-grade game, the score was knotted at 14-14 at halftime before Shelbyville edged ahead 31-25 and held on for a 43-39 victory.

R. Schmidt scored 14 while L. Frost added 11 for the Bullpups.

At Sacred Heart

Effingham Sacred Heart defeated Neoga twice.

In the seventh-grade game, the Shamrocks won 43-19. Borries led Sacred Heart with 14 points while Hecht chipped in with 12.

In the eighth-grade game, Sacred Heart was a 27-17 winner. Sparks led the Shamrocks with eight points.

 

At Newton

Jasper County split wins with Marshall. In the seventh-grade game, Marshall claimed a 29-20 win. The score was tied at 12-12 at halftime before Marshall moved ahead 23-18 in the third period and had a 6-2 final quarter.

Reed Tharp led Jasper County (1-3) with six points.

In eighth-grade play, Jasper County took a 38-29 victory. Jasper County held a 21-12 halftime lead while the two teams scored 17 points each in the second half.

Wade Wickham tallied 13 and Lain Burgener 12 for the winners who improve to 3-1. Jasper County is back in action at Lawrenceville Thursday.

At Teutopolis

Teutopolis handed Mattoon two defeats in Monday evening action.

The Wooden Shoes stepped out to a 21-2 opening quarter lead in seventh-grade play and never looked back in the 41-13 victory.

Isaac McWhorter led the way for the Shoes with 16 points.

In eighth-grade competition, the score was tied at 14-14 at halftime before T-town had a 10-2 third quarter run and went on for a 29-19 win.

Jake Bushur led the way for the Shoes with 16.

At Kinmundy

Altamont and South Central claimed a win each in junior high action Monday.

Altamont was a winner in the seventh-grade contest, 33-11. Veteto led the way with 10 points while Bauer added eight.

In eighth-grade play, South Central took a 42-14 victory. South Central led 27-5 at halftime.

Brody Markley scored 11 for the winners while Jones had eight.

Altamont was led by Shafer with 12.

At Windsor

Stewardson-Strasburg downed Windsor twice Monday.

Stew-Stras picked up the seventh-grade victory, 35-11 with a 22-6 opening half run.

Sayers scored 12 for the winners while Wetherell added 10. Stew-Stras improves to 3-1.

Windsor was led by McDaniel with six. 

In the eighth-grade game, Stew-Stras led 26-12 at halftime then went on for a 47-26 victory to improve to 2-2.

Gurgel and Morris tallied 12 each for the winners.

Windsor was led by Downs with 13.
